We are going fishing as a family this weekend. I'd like to share with the kids some biblical stories, scriptures or any fish related things mentioned in the Bible. Could you all be so kind to bombard me with some of them?

Thank you.

Job 41:1 “Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook or press down his tongue with a cord?
41:2 Can you put a rope in his nose or pierce his jaw with a hook?
41:3 Will he make many pleas to you? Will he speak to you soft words?
41:4 Will he make a covenant with you to take him for your servant forever?
41:5 Will you play with him as with a bird, or will you put him on a leash for your girls?
41:6 Will traders bargain over him? Will they divide him up among the merchants?
41:7 Can you fill his skin with harpoons or his head with fishing spears?
41:8 Lay your hands on him; remember the battle - you will not do it again!
41:9 Behold, the hope of a man is false; he is laid low even at the sight of him.
41:10 No one is so fierce that he dares to stir him up. Who then is he who can stand before me?

Ezezekiel 47:8 And he said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, and enters the sea; when the water flows into the sea, the water will become fresh.
47:9 And wherever the river goes, every living creature that swarms will live, and there will be very many fish. For this water goes there, that the waters of the sea may become fresh; so everything will live where the river goes.
47:10 Fishermen will stand beside the sea. From Engedi to Eneglaim it will be a place for the spreading of nets. Its fish will be of very many kinds, like the fish of the Great Sea.

Jonah chapter 1:
14 Therefore they called out to the LORD, “O LORD, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not on us innocent blood, for you, O LORD, have done as it pleased you.”
15 So they picked up Jonah and hurled him into the sea, and the sea ceased from its raging.
16 Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows.
A Great Fish Swallows Jonah
17 And the LORD appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Jonah's Prayer - chapter 2:
1 Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish,
2 saying, “I called out to the LORD, out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice.
3 For you cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your waves and your billows passed over me.
4 Then I said, ‘I am driven away from your sight; yet I shall again look upon your holy temple.’
5 The waters closed in over me to take my life; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped about my head
6 at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me forever; yet you brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God.
7 When my life was fainting away, I remembered the LORD, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple.
8 Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their hope of steadfast love.
9 But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to the LORD!”
10 And the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out upon the dry land.

Matthew 12:40 For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
12:41 The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.

Jesus Calls the First Disciples
Matthew 4:18 While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.
Mat 4:19 And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Mat 4:20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him.
Mat 4:21 And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them.
Mat 4:22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
see also Mark 1:16-20

Luke 5:1 On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him [Jesus] to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret,
5:2 and he [Jesus] saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets.
5:3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat.
5:4 And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
5:5 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.”
5:6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking.
5:7 They signalled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.
5:8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.”
5:9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken,
5:10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.”
5:11 And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.

John 21:3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
21:4 Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.
21:5 Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.”
21:6 He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish.
21:7 That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea.
21:8 The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off.
21:9 When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread.
21:10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.”
21:11 So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn.
21:12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord.
21:13 Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish.
21:14 This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.

I remember going out fishing with Dad and my sisters and friends - boat fishing often putting at low speed dragging a snook line behind to catch Snapper or Snook

We are going to be land fishers. Not quite graduated to a boat. I hope to make good memories, here. Oh, and to eat some fresh trout!

Matt 17: 27
27 However, so that we do not offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find a stater(coin). Take that and give it to them for you and Me.”

Jesus ate fish after crucifixion
Luk 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
Luk 24:40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
Luk 24:41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?
Luk 24:42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
Luk 24:43 And he took it, and did eat before them.

I love this one.

Once when he was standing on the shore of Lake Gennesaret, the crowd was pushing in on him to better hear the Word of God. He noticed two boats tied up. The fishermen had just left them and were out scrubbing their nets. He climbed into the boat that was Simon’s and asked him to put out a little from the shore. Sitting there, using the boat for a pulpit, he taught the crowd. When he finished teaching, he said to Simon, “Push out into deep water and let your nets out for a catch.” Simon said, “Master, we’ve been fishing hard all night and haven’t caught even a minnow. But if you say so, I’ll let out the nets.” It was no sooner said than done—a huge haul of fish, straining the nets past capacity. They waved to their partners in the other boat to come help them. They filled both boats, nearly swamping them with the catch. Simon Peter, when he saw it, fell to his knees before Jesus. “Master, leave. I’m a sinner and can’t handle this holiness. Leave me to myself.” When they pulled in that catch of fish, awe overwhelmed Simon and everyone with him. It was the same with James and John, Zebedee’s sons, coworkers with Simon. Jesus said to Simon, “There is nothing to fear. From now on you’ll be fishing for men and women.” They pulled their boats up on the beach, left them, nets and all, and followed him.

Make sure to quiz the kids on what Bible story had the fish catching a man! (Jonah)
Nice perspective of that story.

Dad asks "Now kids, do you think that a fish could catch a man?"
Kids exclaim "No way! We catch the fish, not the other way around, silly!"
Dad in exceeding joy replies "Well, what about that story of Jonah and that great fish!?"

Continues to read aloud Jonah...

Grilled on an open flame wrapped in foil with butter with garlic.
Thats the right way to eat trout. Squeeze of lemon, salt and pepper. Read John 21 around the fire. Your kids will remember it forever.

Happy fishing
