The word "Universalism" mean different things to different people in different contexts.
But what I'm speaking of here, is the idea that everyone is saved. No one goes to hell.
I don't believe this myself, but we do have some here on TalkJesus that do. This is targeted towards that belief.
There are a number of churches that follow this concept, probably the largest is the Unitarian Universalist church.
These people believe everyone is saved, even if they don't believe in Jesus, even if they are a homosexual, child molesting Satanist, they are still saved.
First we should look at some of the scriptures they use to propagate this.
1Jn 2:2; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.
John 3:17; "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
John 1:29; The next day he *saw Jesus coming to him and *said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Rom 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
Rom 5:10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
1Cor 15:28; When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all.
1Tim 4:10; For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of believers.
There are others, but these are the ones that generally come up first.
But the idea is, Jesus died for the "whole" world, He died for "all sinners". He died while we were still sinners for us.
So then, if Jesus died for everyone, why isn't everyone saved?
... to be continued ...
