I have been down on churches for quite some time.
But listening to some of you here that i have acquired great respect for,has made me look at things and myself in a different light.
I dont know how it will pan out,but i have decided to give a church assembly one more try.
I ask for your prayers in finding a true bible believing congregation.
I remember the last time i trie,it was a Sunday morning service. I didnt go for sunday school. We sang a few hymns, then the pastor stood up and introduced the speaker for the morning......a man from the Gideons to ask for money.
ON A SUNDAY MORNING! I got up and walked out.

I thought i would start by visiting Wednesday nights at first. Maybe sit through a couple of business meetings. Really check them out. Learn their doctrines and beliefs. Take real slow on the back pew.
We will see how it goes.

Hi Lenz, I fully support and endorse your endeavours to find a church. I'd suggest visit a load of websites to get a flavour and then narrow the search down and keep looking until you find a church that you feel 'happy in'. Have a list of boxes you want ticking but bear in mind that no church will tick every box, and it's more than possible that the one you eventually plump for may not tick any, but if it's really warm, friendly, outgoing with lots of good praise, Bible study and outreach, well what more could you ask for?

For me, I've always avoided mega-churches because with them for every job, there's a waiting list. I much prefer small, struggling churches or a chapel where I feel I can make a contribution and a difference. It's important that we go to church to give, more than we receive. So, please, don't have any red lines that prompt you to walk out but instead cut them some slack, take a long term view.

Finally, when making your final choice, pray, pray, pray - and then get stuck in and give, give, give, and I'm not talking $, more time, prayer, support and love for brothers and sisters.

I will pray for you bro. Let me know how you get on.

'These were more noble than those in Thessalonica,
in that they received the word with all readiness of mind,
and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.'
(Act 17:11)

I hope you are successful too, @lentz.
May the Lord's will for you be done.
For His Name and glory's sake.
In Christ Jesus

I've heard it said that if you find a perfect church, then don't join it because you'll ruin it. Every congregation has its flaws and we are never going to find a group of people that we agree with on every aspect of the Bible. For our own growth it is good to be part of a community of believers and to learn how to get along with people that we disagree with, especially if we are there to love rather than be loved. Paul asked people for money in order to support Jerusalem (1 Corinthians 16:1-3), so I wouldn't see asking for money to support a good cause in itself as being a reason for walking out.

Hi Lentz,

Just wondering if my prayers for you have been answered? Did you find a church that you like?
