A Clear Statement Regarding My Beliefs

Here is what I really believe.

'Who is Jesus' would be better expressed as 'who was Jesus'. While there is no reliable evidence that any such person as described in the gospels ever lived, my own opinion is that he was a real man.

I've traveled a great deal in Asia and in the Americas, and in every city where I've spent much time I've seen the street-corner preachers with their disciples gathered about them. Many of the preachers are charasmatic spell binders. Some claim Christianity as their creed, some Islam, some the Tao, but each claims to be the one with the true message of heaven. I've no doubt that Jesus did exist and was one such preacher.

As a child I spent a good deal of time in New Orleans. I was fascinated by the street artists in Jackson Square with their ability to paint a person's portrait in a few minutes. Such street-side paintings are not great art, but they are accurate representations of their subjects. It's too bad there was not one of these artists around in Jesus' time to leave behind a true picture of the man himself.

Instead, all we have are the contradictory accounts of the gospels. They don't give us much to go on if we want to know who Jesus was. Much of what they say is wrong. Jesus' mother and father are said to have been from Nazareth, but Nazareth didn't exist until after Jesus is supposed to have been born, lived, and died. No census was taken during the time of Caesar Augustus. When the Canon of the New Testament was ratified in 325 at Nicea, the bishops should have spent the money needed to hire a good editor to correct the mistakes and eliminate the conflicts in the story. It would have been money well spent.

Myths have a way of being built into the fabric of a culture. I've seen how myths can become so deep-rooted among a people that they continue to be believed long after they have been been proven to be false. The Jesus myth and all the world's religions have survived long past the time when they should have disappeared. Faith in one sort of god or another has proven to be stronger than reason.

So who was Jesus? He was a man who may or may not have lived and died two thousand years ago. His teachings have little value, and the church built in his name has been guilty of causing some of the greatest crimes in the history of humankind, from the burning of witches to the holocaust. Remember that it was Christians who built the extermination camps where Jews were slaughtered. Adolf Hitler's birthday was blessed every year in German churches.

Now you can excommunicate me if you wish. I leave you with this: El día ha sido bueno. La noche será larga.
(The day has been good. The night will be long)

Well so much for opinion. In the end it doesn't count for anything. Truth is a much more worthwhile possession.
Jesus said...
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following.
Gospel of Mark 16: 15-20

Well here we are almost 2,000 years later and these signs are still happening to true worshippers who believe the New Testament literally and fully.
People are being filled with the Holy spirit and come to know Jesus personally as their Lord and Saviour.
People are speaking/praying in tongues - a supernatural spiritual language given by the Holy Spirit to commune directly to God, spirit to Spirit.
Pentecost churches experience a myriad of miracles, healings, Godly provision, answered prayer, and knowledge concerning the Kingdom of God.
2,000 years later and Jesus Christ proves over and over again and again to those who seek him in truth that He rose from death to conquer death and evil.

The trouble for you, Garza33, is lack of discernment.
Jesus also said...
Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Gospel of Matthew 7: 19-23

As to Jesus being the true and living God read the following testimony on Jordan Fumbelo, from Zambezi, in Zambia, who was raised up from the dead by the power of Jesus....
http://miracles.areonthe.net/TESTIMONY Collection/TESTIMONY POSTERS/TESTIMONY Posters/Jordan Fumbelo, Zambezi, Zambia.pdf

And this testimony is only one of thousands upon thousands experienced by Christians who submit to and believe the Word of God faithfully preached.

Greetings

Forgive my stupidity but why join TalkJesus which is clearly about Jesus Christ and sharing Scripture if you really believe what you've written?

You're not the first person to think like that but you will find that you are doing much of what you speak down about.

Consider your ways. It is a good start. Have you ever read this verse in Scripture?
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8

Bless you ....><>

We believe in what we believe. That is faith. We also know some things, which means we have something beyond simple belief with regard to our faith, but this knowledge is not always something that can be shared with anyone. Oh, we can speak words to reflect what we believe and/or what we know, but unless the listener's heart is open, the words cannot really be heard and accepted. This is where prayer can make a difference. We are praying that God will speak to you about opening up a closed heart.

Garza33, You sound like a man called "Saul of Tarsus" who also did not believe in the Jesus Christ, or anything he taught, in fact he helped kill many of Jesus's followers.. He later had an encounter with this man called Jesus one day that changed every thing. His name was changed to "Paul", and he wrote most of the New Testament that we have in the Bible. Because you say he is a meth, or some other fallacy, does not make him not real. It would unwise to believe in something without some kind of proof, or evidence to why we believe in Jesus Christ. We do not believe in something we can not see, but what we can see. This proof, and evidence that we have is not seen with our physical eyes, but the eyes of our heart. It is called "faith" which is the evidence that is more real than what we see with physical body, for it is eternal unlike this world in which we are now living that is passing away.
How can one become a child of God? By believing that Jesus Christ is Lord, and that God raised from the dead, for it is the heart man believes unto righteousness, and with my mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Do this and be not a unbeliever, but a believer along with the rest of us here.
