A Computer Virus Got Me

- June 15, 2005

"I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it to be full." John 10:9-10

Jesus says in this passage that we have an enemy whose sole mission is to kill, destroy, and bring misery to the human race. How opposite this is from God?'s plan to bless us with an abundant, joy-filled life.

Last week my computer came to a complete halt. The reason? Three nasty viruses had attached themselves to my system. Luckily, my son-in-law is a computer genius. He spent an entire evening fixing the mess. It seems the first virus disabled our anti-virus software and opened the door for his devious friends. My son-in-law cleansed the system and strengthened the firewalls so that it would not happen again.

I was shocked to learn that computer viruses are engineered to cause mayhem and trouble for computer users across the world. Hackers and cyber space terrorists manufacture viruses just to cause trouble for ordinary people and businesses. There are no redeeming characteristics in a computer virus. They do nothing good.

It reminds me of the above Bible passage. The enemy causes trouble, just like a computer virus. His goal is to make us miserable and unproductive. There is nothing good in him, no redeeming characteristics at all. Once he gains a foothold in our lives, he opens the door to other problems. How much better to follow God, who brings stability and joy to our lives. His Word is like a firewall, giving us wisdom to stay away from evil.

Thank you Jesus, for being our firewall. Please keep our lives free from the evil intent of the enemy.

Wow Chad, the only thing that I can say is that I'm always afraid of viruses. They "hit" my computer exactly when I'm not expecting

"Thank you Jesus, for being our firewall."
