What does the word hierarchy mean? Does the Bible support this in the Trinity?
It simply "a system or organization in which people or groups are ranked one above the other according to status or authority". So then if the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, are all God, are they equal in "rank".
John 8:42; Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even come on My own initiative, but He sent Me.
John 8:28; So Jesus said, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me.
John 14:10; "Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.
John 14:31; but so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father commanded Me. Get up, let us go from here.
Jesus said He does "nothing on my own initiative". Only what the Father told Him to do. Jesus says He does "exactly as the Father commanded" Him to do.
Luke 22:42; saying, "Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done."
Php 2:8; Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Who was Jesus being "obedient" to? The Father.
John 14:13; "Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Who tells the Holy Spirit where to go and what to do?
John 14:26; "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
John 15:26; "When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me,
John 16:13; "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.
Like Jesus, the Holy Spirit doesn't do things or speak on His own behalf. He only does and says what He hears from Jesus.
