Then one of the rulers of the synagogue came up, Jairus by name; and seeing Him, he prostrated himself at His feet And begged Him earnestly, saying, My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, so that she may be healed and live. Mark 5:22-23 AMPC
Jairus wasn’t supposed to express anything close to faith when he encountered Jesus. If he followed the example of fellow synagogue leaders, he should have treated Jesus with disdain. However, Jairus was in a place of desperation. His daughter was dying, and he had nowhere left to turn. It was either Jesus, who had already healed many, or the death of someone he loved very deeply.
Jairus chose what appeared foolish to his peers but what was in reality the only sensible choice. He took heart in what others had rejected. He humbled himself, he begged, and he believed that Jesus, and only Jesus, could do something for him. That may sound redundant, but it holds a key to understanding the reason you can take heart. God (Jesus) can do what you can’t. When you recognize that He cares about you and wants the best for you, then coming to Him for help is no longer a matter of desperation.
Prayer: Let me care more about You and what You can do, God, and less about the opinions of those who won’t ask You for help.
