But Joseph replied, "Don't be afraid of me. Am I God, that I can punish you? You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. Genesis 50:19-20 NLT

How do you respond when you’re faced with opposition or criticism because of your Christian faith? Or when you believe that you’re treated unfairly…for no discernible reason? Joseph endured that kind of treatment—and worse—yet he kept his eyes on the Lord and on what He had planned for him.

If we’re not careful, we can develop an attitude of “poor, pitiful me” when things aren’t going our way. That happens when we focus on our circumstances and not on the amazing truth that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

Joseph could forgive his brothers for the wrong they had committed against him because he remained focused on the Lord and His plans and purposes. That makes him a great example to follow when we’re facing tough times.

Prayer: Lord God, when I feel troubled or persecuted, encourage me and strengthen me by reminding me that You really do use everything that happens to me for my own good and for the good of Your kingdom.
