The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10:10 NLT
When Jesus talked about the “rich and satisfying life,” He was referring to those many things He promises to do within us, starting with the wonderful gift of salvation. That’s a life of blessings beyond measure, a life of joy and peace and fulfillment.
The devil—the one Jesus called “the thief”—wants to rob even those who follow Christ of the rich and satisfying life. But we don’t have to let him succeed. We can choose to receive every good thing Jesus has for us.
Our part in receiving that rich and satisfying life is to follow Jesus’ command: “Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me” (John 15:4).
Remain in me. That means refusing to allow yourself to be distracted—by the pleasures of this world or by your own problems—and following hard after Jesus. That’s the way to enjoy that rich and abundant life.
Prayer: Jesus, I confess that my life in You doesn’t always feel rich and satisfying. I know that the devil wants me to feel defeated—or at least discouraged. But I want the rich and satisfying life You promised. Help me to focus on You alone.
