Jesus said "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." John 8 vs 31, 32

These few verses have been in my spirit for days now. Jesus said to abide in His word. Abide means to remain, to continue. Many christians don't abide in His word. They go their own way all week and maybe on Sunday start thinking about God. That's not what being a Christian is all about. Christianity is a relationship with Jesus. Jesus says "if you abide in my word, you are My disciples" therefore if you don't continually abide in His word, you're not obeying Christ. Can I encourage you if you're not abiding moment by moment, day by day with Jesus maybe this is the time to start.

John 15:4

4Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

So as you can see if Jesus (GOD) dwells in us should be only acknowledge Him when we want to? No. True believers are one with GOD who dwells in us, the Holy Spirit of the Living GOD. We should acknowledge GOD and talk to Him all day, every day.

Amen brothers. I just love John 14, 15 and 16. That is so awesome Chad, that we are grafted onto the Vine Himself - our Lord Jesus Christ. Without being joined to the vine we die.

Amen ThroneofGrace, For our faith to grow we need to read the Word daily, even if it is only a few verses and meditate on them. Along with prayer, we find strength to face the day ahead.

Amen sister. May He always be with us and we with Him through all and everything we do. We in Ireland are familiar with the Breastplate of Patrick who encourage Christians almost two thousand years ago to live day by day with God in their lives. Its a lovely sharing - thank you.

Dear Sunshine 307

I was So encouraged to read this

The Lord is so good Last week I discovered I had not been abiding in Jesus. I saw how easy it is to 'slip' by not praying or spending time meditating on His Word. Let's encourage each other in these things.

Joy

Amen sister. Just when I read your name there the wee chorus we used to sing came to mind - "Joy, joy, joy, my heart is full of joy". Praise His name that my heart is full of joy. I'm glad you were encouraged by this. That's what the Christian life is about, abiding in His presence, isn't it. Long may we continue to encourage each other. sunshine307

Thanks Sunshine, that's good stuff. As we walk with Jesus and abide in Him we can't help but love Him more. When we love Him more we do just as he told us because it is out of love. I tried to put that in a way that didn't sound like I'm running in circles chasing my tail.

Abide in Jesus...I have loved reading all these posts. and John 15 v4 which is so relevant. We are one with God, we have been made one with God when we were saved and baptised into our inheritance as brothers and sisters with Christ. As the holy spirit indwells within each one of us so the fruits of the spirit grow and strengthen...but for this to happen we have to abide with Jesus. We have to allow Christ, the gardenenr help us, prune us, tend to us in loving care. Sometimes he might have to rip away the parts of us whcih are causing "damage" to the vine, like a gaardener has to prune his branch. Once the pruning has taken place the new buds of life and hope grow and flourish. So it is desperatly important that not only do we abide with Christ but we continuoulsly and willingly allow him to work in all areas of our lives. Yes, even those areas we would rather he did not mention for it is then that the true blessings of his spirit can grow. We can branch out and deepen are faith and lives as we walk in the glory of Christ are loving God.
My prayer is simple, I dont like long "fluffy" words!!! Lord let me live in you, each moment of each day, stengthen and help me to reach out in your way within this world, and look within me Lord and give me the courage to throw away the pain that is holding me back from abiding in you more fully. Lord, you are the vine, you are my gardner, you look after me, tend to me, water me with your loving water of life.Abide with me that I may always abide in you. Give me the courage to reach to new heights, to have new growth always within your guidance and tender care.Amen. :0

Amen scooby. it is those parts we try to keep hidden from God that can hold us back. If only we'd realise sooner He knows these parts of our lives anyway, and is just waiting for us to bring them to Him. It's our stubbornness and pride that keep us from giving them to Him and allowing Him to work more in our lives.

lll3 you put that just perfectly. What a blessing it is to abide in His Word.
