All flesh is as grass and the glory of it as the flowers of the field
This world and the fashion of it, even the glory of this world is soon to pass away. Those who are of this world adorn themselves in their own outward beauty, and clothe themselves with their own glory of wealth and riches. But the Lord shows us by similitudes that the people who are of the flesh, and those who live to the lusts of the flesh, are also the ones who glory in the riches of this world. The Lord shows us these peoples are like grass, and their riches are like the flower that clothes the fields of grass. These being like fields of grass clothed with the glory of this world shall pass away, when the Lord blows upon the fashion and glory of this world with scorching heat.
Psalm 37 “Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. 2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.”
Psalm 90:5-6 “Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.6 In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.”
Psalm 129:6 “Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up:”
Isaiah 27:11 “When the boughs thereof are withered, they shall be broken off: the women come, and set them on fire: for it is a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them, and he that formed them will shew them no favour.”
