"And Kissed Him"

CH Spurgeon was known as 'the prince of preachers', in his day.

Fighting his way through a blizzard on a winters day, he turned into a roadside chapel to take refuge. The preacher did not arrive due to the severity of the weather.

An elder of the church entered the pulpit to preach. He announced his text, from the book of lsaiah "Look unto me and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth"

Spurgeon said, "I looked, and was saved" So began the greatest Protestant ministry of his generation. He proved to be a thorn in the side of popery such has not been seen since.

The Metropolitan Tabernacle still survives. The minister today is Rev. John Masters. He can be heard on the Christian t.v Channels, I forget the number. Look out for him. The building looks dated today, but the fellowship appears to be strong

Thank you Coconut for this post,
God is love, we've witnessed it from generations to generations....Love the way this preacher expounded the Kissing part, that's how Jesus sees and takes us despite how we are....i can only say what a wonderful saviour and great grace we have. Halleluyah to the lamb of God!!

Condescending?!?

Great article....

But does anyone have a dictionary contemporary to Spurgeon's day? Because he describes a loving, gentle, ever forgiving, ever faithful and compassionate God...yet he uses the word "condescending" several times.

I can find no positive definition for this word, even in archaic terms, so I'm trying to figure out why he chose it.

Normally if someone is concescending towards you it's not a good thing, nor does it fit with the behavior described for either God or the prodigal father.

So yeah...just a bit confoozled on that point.

I replied yesterday Jan, but it seems my post got lost with the upgrade.

The author is using that expression in the same context as it is used in Romans 12:16: "Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits."
