Isaac pleaded with the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was unable to have children. The LORD answered Isaac's prayer, and Rebekah became pregnant with twins. Genesis 25:21
The young couple beamed as they stood in front of the small congregation, their precious new son in their arms.
On either side of them, their parents looked on with equal pleasure as the minister prayed for their new grandson and dedicated him and his family to the Lord. The baby squirmed and cooed, not realizing his tremendous heritage—his family on one side had served the Lord for four generations, on the other for five.
Isaac’s heritage went back only one generation, but it would stretch physically and spiritually for scores of generations to come. Isaac passed on to his sons not just a hope and a prayer, but a real spiritual blessing.
Down through the centuries, Moses and later Jesus spoke of “the physical families. Many a man and childless couple, although without physical descendants, have gained spiritual children by passing on their faith to others.
Today, all who believe in God are described in scripture as “children of Abraham,” the man of faith. Isaac started passing along the blessing. You can do so as well.
Prayer: Lord, transform me. Like Isaac, I want to bless generations to come by passing on a spiritual heritage to my family.
