Are You Sure I'm Saved? - September 24, 2005
I do not know you, and cannot see what is in your heart. However, God can, and His Word, the Bible, says that when you believe in Jesus Christ, and accept Him in to your life, you have eternal life.
"For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9-10
The key word in the above verse is "believe." When we truly believe something we do not hide that belief inside us, but we put that believing in to action. While some people express feeling a sense of peace and comfort at the moment of acceptance of Christ in to their life, others say they only started to "feel different" when they began to really apply their new-found belief in to their every day lives. States one woman, "I realized that my temper and use of vulgar language would not be pleasing to God, so I began to apply God's love and patience to those aspects of my being. You know what? People began to notice, and it encouraged me to begin being more Christ-like in other corners of my life. The joy I feel is divine!"
A middle-aged man replies, "I had been cheating on my wife, and not being a very good dad. How could I continue in sin when I had just told God that I wanted to abide by His goodness? It was hard at first, but I broke my sinful ties and began to direct that attention to my marriage and children, of course placing God at the head of my life where He belongs. With God's grace, and my efforts, my whole family situation began to change. I love my wife and kids, and I feel terrible for what I did, but thank God that I am now washed clean of that sin, and a new creation in Christ!"
When we accept God and His Son, Jesus Christ in to our life, our reward is salvation and eternal life. However, there are other rewards; too numerous to list. The peace and joy that comes from this divine relationship with our Creator is real and profound. The understanding that our sinful past is behind us allows us to walk forward without shame or guilt. His name is now engraved upon our hearts, and the more we seek His love and knowledge, the greater this love has the ability to bless our lives, and the lives of those around us.
Only you and God knows the quality of your joint relationship, but if you are not saved, won't you invite Him in to your heart today?
