Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the LORD, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. "For My thoughts [are] not your thoughts, Nor [are] your ways My ways," says the LORD. Isaiah 55:7-8 NKJV
Isaiah calls on his readers to seek the Lord while there is an opportunity. Time is limited, and the consequences of sin will come faster than expected. If you feel weighted down by sinful thoughts, desires, or actions, your only hope for deliverance and new life is to turn from your sins and to ask God’s forgiveness. Once you’ve let go of what keeps you from obedience to the Lord, you’ll remain clear of sin when you trust in God’s power to renew your mind.
On your own, you aren’t capable of thinking the way God wants you to. God’s thoughts are at a level far above what we humans can reach. God’s ways are also higher, so that you can never measure up on your own. Considering God’s thoughts and ways beyond your reach isn’t a source of discouragement; rather, it’s an invitation to rely fully on God’s forgiveness and mercy. You can’t reach God on your own. That is only possible with God’s power at work in your life. Thankfully, God is near, merciful, and more than willing to life you up.
Prayer: Lord, restore my thoughts and renew my actions.
