Backing Away From God

"This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." Romans 3:22-24
Yesterday I went to give my daughter a hug because, frankly, I was happy to see her back home. She is only eighteen years old and recently progressed from working a part-time job to full-time. As such, when she walked in the door, I immediately greeted her to ask about her first day, and to let her know her presence had been missed. Rather than welcome my embrace, she backed off and let off a whiney, "Moooooom!" The rejection stung a little.
Saying nothing, I sat back down on the couch because I did not want to force myself upon her.
Immediately, God spoke to my heart and whispered, "Now you understand how I feel when my children reject Me. I offer Myself freely to them, and desire to embrace them with My love, but so often I am rejected. They want nothing to do with me."
My dear friends, God is not a puppet-master who can manipulate us into having a relationship with Him. He is there for Every time we give in to sin, we are, in essence, telling God that His word and will are not important.
As the above verse reveals, all men have sinned, and this means that even those who profess to know and love God have fallen short of the glory of God.
Your heavenly Father is reaching out to you and calling you to a higher standard. Will you allow Him to embrace you, or will you back away?
