I am aware that there will be alot of discussion positive and negative on this subject but i feel it would be good to hear our brother and sisters views,

If you speak in tongues does that mean that you are baptised in the spirit?
i know that it can be evidence and that we need to ask for god to fill us each day.

Believe and Recieve or Doubt and do without that is my general opinion.

your thoughts please

Yes, assuming the person speaking in tongues is not a fraud and genuinely speaking by the power of the Holy Spirit. Its a gift from the Holy Spirit Himself in the first place.

Acts 2: 4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 10:45And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God
. Then answered Peter,
47Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

Acts 19:6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues
, and prophesied.

Mark 16: 16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

If we want what they had in the Bible and to know it is really from God then we must be scriptural . So yes this is the evidence. But remember it says its for BELIEVERS. The world, unbelievers, cannot recieve the Holy Ghost. First you must repented and ask Jesus into your life -then this is a promise
to you that Jesus will baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

John 14:16And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Luke 3:16John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire

But this is sream in spiritual plane - whith light and great bliss.

Thank you Gloria for sharing those scriptures,
Can i share somthing with you all, first and foremost Jesus is the way the truth and the life and should be the centre of any christian life, when i was saved nearly 3 years ago i went to a certain church that thought these gifts we just for the jesus times and wernt relevant for today, i was only a young christian then and still am, but had a look at the bible and if you take all miricles and other gifts that happened then and remove them then there wouldnt be much left of the new testement do you agree?
JESUS IS THE SAME YESTERDAY TODAY AND FOREVER.
I asked god for the baptism of the holy spirit and i recieved the gift of tongues, i know chad that there are people that are faulse and let these gifts take over from jesus, but i feel that this gift of tongues is excellent when you dont know what to pray for and it edifies yourself aswell as the church if interpreted.
i just feel in my heart that there are christians out there who should know that this gift is available to them and helps against attack from the evil one, recieving tongues doesnt make you any better of a christian its another telephone line to the lord.
i know this is often a difficult subject and do not want to offend anyone but feel this may help others.

r2d2, I had some difficulty understanding your post and I have some questions for you.

Real baptizm is reseving knowledge about Holy Spirit.
What scripture do you base this statement on?

Only peole with clear heart can see this Light...
Please elaborate on this. When you say a clear heart, do you mean clean heart? Does that mean we must be born again to see this light?

And nobody cannot come to Holy Spirit without THIS baptism because hi don't know this Spirit...
This statement here, sounds very contradictory to itself, please explain?

To all,
I do believe and experience that tongues is the filling of Holy spirit. As men we don't know heavenly realms. Jesus by his grace has sent Holy spirit. So Holy spirit prays instead of us. He knows what to talk to God. That is tongues. Only God can recognize us. Noneelse. Even Satan cannot.PRAISE GOD.

I would like everyone to look at what Jesus said Matthew 7:22-23 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

As you can see, these people had gifts, and they did it all in the name of Jesus. They had the gifts, but they must not have had the fruit. They must not have had the real proof, the real evidence that is shown in 1 John 3:24 and Galatians 5:22-23. They were given gifts, and probably said they knew Jesus, yet they did not know Jesus (1 John 2:1-5), they were workers of iniquity. The bible never says, that tongues is the only evidence of haveing the Holy Spirit. It says it is a gift of the Holy Spirit. The true evidence of the Holy Spirit is shown in 1 John 3:24 and Galatians 5:22-23. Look at what Jesus says in regards to false prophets, how you will know wether they are of God or not. 18A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Acts has many recorded accounts, and not every time people were filled with the Holy Spirit did they speak in tongues, for instance Acts 4:31. I covered that in my thread though. The point I am making, you can have the gifts, and still not know Jesus and have Him dwelling in you. The real evidence is 1 John 3:24 and Galatians 5:22-23. This bible says that this is how we know that the Holy Spirit is in us, and we in Him, in 1 John 3:24.
May God Bless You

I don't recall any scripture that confirms this statement, Daniel_TX

The first scripture I gave you. Matthew 7:22-23. The people Jesus talks about in this verse, had the gift of prophecy, the ability to cast out devils, and performed many wonderful works. Prophecy is a gift of the Spirit, as seen in 1 Corinthians 12, but Jesus told them to depart from Him, and said they work iniquity. They had a gift of the Spirit, but they didn't know Jesus (1 John 2:1-5) because they worked iniquity. They didn't have the real evidence of having the Holy Spirit which is shown in 1 John 3:24

Acts 2:38&39
38* Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39*For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
You must first become born again to be a recipient of the gift of the Holy Spirit.

You still aren't explaining why there is people who were prophets, who cast out devils and who performed worderful works, that Jesus turned away. They had the gifts, yet Jesus said they didn't know him, just like John says people are liars who say they know Jesus but they don't keep His commandments in 1 John 2:1-5. Anyways, this is beside the point, the bible says how we know we have the Holy Spirit in 1 John 3:24. Galatians 5:22-23 shows the fruit of the Spirit. I agree completely jiggy, that in order to have God in you, you must be reborn. This is what the bible says and how we know God is in us. However the gift spoken of in Acts 2:38 is not talking about speaking in tongues. Its talking about recieving the Holy Spirit, and haveing God dwell in us. The point was, you could have a gift, and not be indwelled by God. If you want to disagree, then you should explain Matthew 7:22-23. The way you know that The Holy Spirit is in you, is by 1 John 3:24.

Anyways, this is beside the point, the only time the bible ever says anything directly about how we know we have the Holy Spirit is in 1 John 3:24 and in 1 John 2:3. I list 1 John 3:24 because it is a lot more direct. Galatians 5:22-23 shows the fruit of the Spirit.

Matthew 23:9-13
9*Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. 10*And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11*And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12*And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13*But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Ezekiel 18:24-28
24*But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. 25* Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal? 26* When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. 27*Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. 28*Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

Sorry but I don't have time right now to post more Scriptures, but I will as soon as I can

Exactly, so someone can recieve a gift of the Holy Spirit, be indwelled at one time, and then no longer be indwelled but still have the gifts. So you agree with me, that the only way you know the Holy Spirit is in you is by what is said in 1 John 3:24 and not by you still haveing a gift. You can have a gift and not be indwelled by the Holy Spirit, which is what I had said in the first place I think. By the way, I love Ezekiel 18, I have had it marked in my bible for a while. How the Israelites felt that the sin of the parents should be upon their kids and vice versa.
