Although the war’s outcome over sin has already been assured, we remain locked in battle here and now. And like it or not, we cannot be pacifists against sin. As warriors, we need a good strategy to survive and bring life to those around us.
Strength and knowledge alone are not enough. To succeed in any military endeavor, one must have strength, knowledge, and the applied wisdom of multiple viewpoints.
We should start each day by listening to our Commander and asking for His assistance. Prayer helps us tap into the strength of God’s providence (see 1 John 5:14-15). Reading His Word helps us gain knowledge into His character. Then, when our hearts and minds are aligned with God’s, we seek out others who are similarly aligned.
They might be in our families, our churches, our workplaces, or our neighborhoods. It doesn’t matter where we find them, as long as we’ll listen to their counsel. No matter how strong and smart we think we are, we’ll lose when pride leads us to fight sinfulness by ourselves.
If you already belong to a battalion, pray for their safety today. If you don’t pray that God will bring you into one.
Prayer: Lord, may I listen to the counsel of others in the battle against sin.
