Why Did Jesus Die on the Cross?

Well, that's a great question.Jesus died on the cross to allow us one day to receive salvation. What is salvation? Salvation is when you give Jesus your life, since he gave his life for you. That let's you know how much Jesus loves you. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life"

I've noticed that many posters on this site view salvation as a future event. While that is true, it is also a present condition. We are saved right now. We are His children in the here and now. His Spirit indwells us NOW. We are saved, we are being saved and we shall be saved.

This means that we are Justified in Christ
We are sanctified
and
We shall be glorified

His salvation is not a gift in holding until you die. Its a present reality.

Agreed, AND:

(Eph 2:4) But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Amen, and welcome to the site BrianK

"Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord and He will have mercy on him, and to our God, for He will freely pardon. 'For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,' declares the Lord. 'As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.'" (Is 55:7-9 NIV)

While God loves us and is in and with every Christ follower, He is also above us and beyond human reach. Thus, we cannot earn our forgiveness. In His compassion for us, God sent His Son Jesus to suffer and die and become the bridge connecting us to Himself (see Jn 3:16-17)
