I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law? Of course not! It is because you believe the message you heard about Christ. Galatians 3:5 NLT
Men like lists, especially lists of things we need to do to accomplish something important-be it finding professional success, building a strong marriage, or raising emotionally and physically healthy children.
But, as the apostle Paul taught the erring Galatian church, receiving God’s Holy Spirit and walking in His power aren’t matters of keeping a list of laws or rules but instead a result of doing one simple thing: believing from the heart the simple message of Jesus Christ.
No man has ever received God’s Spirit or seen His power working in his life by simply “willing” those things to happen. Those things happen when we simply believe what God has said in His written Word.
Do you ever find yourself trying to make God act on your behalf by “doing” things you believe will earn His favor? If so, then stop it. Instead, simply believe…and receive all He has for you.
Prayer: Generous heavenly Father, remind me daily that Your gift of the Holy Spirit-as well as the things He does in and through my heart—come only because I believe You and Your only Son.
