Become As Little Children

Christ teaches us a wonderful principle of becoming as little children in Matthew 18. There are examples all throughout the scriptures where Christ teaches us of how we are like children now. He also teaches us of what traits of a child he would like us to learn and adopt.

Christ has taught that we are like little children now in that we do not fully understand the blessings that our Heavenly Father has for us now and has prepared for us in the future. We also, on this earth, are not able to withstand completely sin, temptation, and all matter of trials, which is why Heavenly Father has provided a way for us to forgiven, and to bear those trials through the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

In what ways has Christ asked us to “become as little children”? He has taught us a variety of attributes to learn including being: “submissive”, “meek”, “humble”, “patient”, “full of love”, “willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father”.

These are simple but highly effective characteristics that we can adopt that will change our lives and bring us closer to not only becoming like the Savior but to knowing who He is. I know this to be true as I’ve strived to practice these characteristics each day in small and simple ways in my own life. I know that they are true principles and anyone who follows the Savior’s counsel to “become as little children” will find the eternal truths in this principle as well as treasures of knowledge of the Kingdom of our Heavenly Father.

This has really been on my mind the last few months.

Children "trust" the parent (even bad parents)
They depend on the parent for EVERYTHING.
They "Believe" what the parent tells them, teaches them.
When they are hurt, they come to the parent for comfort.
When they are scared they come to the parent for protection and rest in it.
When they want/need something they come to the parent.
They expect reaction from the parent.
They try to please the parent.

As they get older, they seem to step into independence which many time leads to rebellion and tantrums.

In the Lord, we mature without having to "grow up".
There are a lot of "Christians" who have grown up and away without even realizing what has happened.
They have gone to college and they have become experts on everything and grow into the bossy big brother or sister.
They don't depend on anyone but themselves. They brag about their accomplishments.
They refuse to think they might not know it all.
Then there are the ones who refuse everything...or remain spoon feeders.
Dont care who says what, must be true, don't know, don't care, don't open a bible.

Child like, the absolute positive trust in God alone, accompanied by trying to please Him and follow His direction,
always willing to learn, never getting to the point where "We know that already".
We should always be seeking God's face, enduring until the end.
