And he said, "Why will you go to him today? It is neither new moon nor sabbath." And she said, "[It is] well." 2 Kings 4:23 LSB

Moms use variations of 2 Kings 4:23 all the time. It’s a phrase designed to comfort children. It may even help the mom calm her own turbulent thoughts.

Elisha was a great prophet of God. His actions led to the words of the above verse being said. He told a woman that God would give her a son. She hadn’t even asked, but it was clear to Elisha that she had longed for a son. She would become a mother—and she and her husband loved the boy. But one day the child complained of a headache, and it wasn’t long before he died. When Elisha learned what had happened, he prayed and believed, and the boy’s life returned. Everything would be all right.

The woman, whose heart had been shattered when her son died, responded with deep gratitude. “She fell to the floor before Elisha’s feet, bowing to the ground, and she wept with happiness. She picked up her son and left the room with him” (v37).

This kind of faith believes when it doesn’t seem logical, trusts when emotions say it’s a worthless pursuit, and waits when anguish is a bully. Believe. Trust. Wait. Repeat.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, the Bible is full of accounts of You doing the impossible. Help me believe that the impossible is still possible with You. I don’t need to worry. All will be well.
