But I [am] poor and needy; [Yet] the LORD thinks upon me. You [are] my help and my deliverer; Do not delay, O my God. Psalm 40:17 NKJV

When you make the choice to believe God, you might find yourself in some very open conversations with Him. You define who you are and then define who you think He is. You compare and contrast. Make sure you have a clear understanding, knowing that you aren’t asking as an equal to God. You are asking because you’re certain that you literally can’t do what you’re asking Him to do. If you’re a mess—tell Him. If you have sinned—confess to Him that you were wrong. If you’ve walked away—declare your return.

And if you feel needy, you should remember that you are. That’s why you’re praying. That’s why you’re asking God for help. That’s why you abandon your own best effort. God’s plans for you aren’t the result of your own work but His.

God is making you into His masterpiece (see Ephesians 2:10), but that only happens when you come to the end of your efforts, hand Him the paint brushes, and let Him take over as the master artist. Masterpiece status happens because of what God does. Always. One hundred percent of the time.

Prayer: My time with You is always well spent, God. Teach me to bring my mess to You. Give me the assurance I need to be certain You’re the one changing me.
