A friend of mine recently gave me a another Bible ( I already have quite a few ). But this one was a little different. Now I have plenty of "red-letter" Bibles where the words spoken by
Jesus are printed in red. For example...
John 3:16; "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
Why are those words printed in red? Because Jesus said them. But I noticed some of the sentences in this new Bible were printed in blue. Why?
Matt 3:17; and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased."
Matt 17:5; While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!"
Mark 1:11; and a voice came out of the heavens: "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased."
Mark 9:7; Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, "This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!"
Why are these words blue? Jesus didn't say them. But who did? There are some other verses in the New Testament also, I won't post them all.
But quite a few it the old testament as well. Now there is caveat about the old testament, for example in Genesis God says...
Gen 2:16 The LORD God commanded the man, saying, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely;
Gen 2:17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die."
Gen 2:18 Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him."
So who was speaking in these verses? God, yes of course. But was it Jesus or was it the Father? We don't know for sure. We only know it was God, so it's printed in blue.
The verses above are all from the NASB Bible, but it doesn't matter, because the publisher is doing this for at least 12 different translations including the King James and NIV.
So what do you think? Good idea? bad idea? Why?
