In Psalm 74:14 it is written “Thou brakest the heads of Leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.”
We know by the words of God that Leviathan represents the red Dragon as shown in Isaiah 27:1. And so we know there is a 7 headed red Dragon shown in the Revelation persueing the woman into the wilderness, after the man-child Jesus is caught up to God’s throne. And then later we see a harlot being carried by the 7 headed scarlet colored beast. We are later told that these 7 heads or 7 mountains are kings, but I dont believe they are flesh and blood kings. After all, would God be literally feeding flesh and blood kings heads to the people inhabiting the wilderness as is written in Psalm 74:14? So I believe these mountains and heads are symbolic of spiritual things. Princes and kings in scripture are often shown as “heads”. Just as God the Father is shown as the Head of Christ, and Christ is shown as the Head of the church; who is also shown as a Prince and King.
The “head” in scripture also represents a place of power and authority. But it also represents the way “the body” thinks being led by the thoughts of the head, just as the body of Christ should have “the mind” of Christ by way of His Spirit, and His 7 spirits. We see mention of the 7 spirits of God in Rev.1:4, Rev 3:1, Rev.4:5, and Rev.5:6. I believe these 7 spirits of God are also mentioned in Isaiah 11:12. #1 The Spirit of the Lord, #2 The Spirit of Wisdom, # 3 The Spirit of understanding, # 4 The Spirit of counsel #5 The Spirit of might #6 The spirit of knowledge, # 7 The Spirit of the fear of the Lord. So these 7 are all good Spirits of the Lord.
So could the 7 heads on the red Dragon represent 7 evil spirits? I believe they do. In my study on the Mystery of iniquity we saw the parable of Jesus where he spoke of the mystery of the falling away from the faith, and how he compared a whole wicked generation as “a man”. This is the same falling away from the faith and “the man” of sin Paul was talking about in 2 Thess. chapter 2. In the parable in Matthew 12:43-45 Jesus said after the unclean spirit is gone out of man, this same unclean spirit would return to the house(temple of the body) it came out of, and also bring with him 7 other spirits more wicked than himself. I believe the first unclean spirit represents the Devil, because he was cast out of heaven down to earth.
Jesus said in John 12:31 “Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. So not only was Satan cast out of heaven, but he was also cast out of those who believed in Jesus Christ. But in the prophecy shown in Jesus’ parable, we see this evil spirit would return to the house(temple of the body), and take with him 7 other evil spirits. I believe these evil spirits are spoken of by Paul in 1Timothy 4:1 where he said “Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrine of Devils.” So I believe these “seducing spirits” Paul refers to, are the 7 “wicked spirits” mentioned in Jesus’ parable.
I believe the 7 evil spirits are 7 evil angels, as angels in scripture are also shown as “spirits”. God said in Psalm 104:4 that God makes His angels spirits. Also keep in mind, we are told in Revelation 9:11 there is a king over the bottomless pit, which is the angel of the bottomless pit. So angels can also be shown as princes and kings in scripture; and princes and kings are also shown as “heads” in scripture.
The head represents the way a person or a people think, so eating the heads of Leviathan will cause the people to think and act a certain way, in this case it would be evil thoughts, desires, and a wicked imagination.
So the 7 heads on the red Dragon that are shown as kings, could represent the 7 wicked spirits that were forecast to come in Jesus’ parable in Matthew 12:43-45. But what could those 7 wicked spirits be? I believe they may be these 7 shown in Proverbs 6:16-19 “These six things does the Lord hate, yea, seven are an abomination unto Him. A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift to running to mischief, A false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.”
We also have an example of God sending evil angels in Psalm 78:49 “He cast upon them the fierceness of His anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.”
So this would be a part of Gods righteous judgments and wrath upon a wicked world. These 7 wicked spirits could be like the 7 curses we saw that would plague those rebellious children who inhabited the wilderness of sin. Now here is something interesting, in the Revelation we see one of the heads on the Dragon and beast is wounded to death, but his deadly wound is healed. We know by the words of God in Gen. 3:15 that the head of the serpent was bruised by “it” in the beginning, as “it” speaks of the spirit of a lie that bruises or darkens the mind of the serpent, and the mind of “his seed”.
And we also see in scripture where God said He would wound the dragon( Isaiah 51:9) and also how He would wound the heads over many countries (Psalm 110:6). And I believe God does this wounding of the head by way of giving men over to a mind of confusion, and by sending evil spirits that dwell in these heads of government. But then I thought, what could be a “spirit” that was wounded in man, and was resurrected back to life in mankind and in the world? And this is what was brought to mind by the Spirit. Pride.
Notice pride is the first thing mentioned in the Proverbs I posted above concerning the 7 things the Lord does hate.
What is also interesting, is in Job 41 God speaks of Leviathan, which is the red Dragon in the midst of the sea of iniquity. God says in verse 34 that he is the “king” over the children of “pride”. This is the same king over the bottomless pit, who is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Greek and Hebrew is “Destruction”. And it is written in Proverbs 16:18 “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” And here in Proverbs 18:12 “Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility.”
Pride and haughtiness is symbolized in scripture like mountains, like the lofty, the high and mighty lifted up in their own hearts and minds. And we see the woman in Revelation sits on 7 mountains. When I think of pride, I can’t help but think of the “pride in sin movements” we see today.
God says woe to the crown of pride in Isaiah, and the first thing mentioned to Ezekiel as the iniquity of Sodom is pride. Nebuchadnezzar was brought down because of his own pride. John the baptist said every mountain shall be made low. Jesus said those who were lifted up and exalted themselves in their hearts to the heights of heaven shall be brought down to hell.
Notice what the Lord told the children of Israel in Leviticus 26:18-19 “And if you will not yet hearken unto me, then I will I will punish you seven times more for your sins. And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass.”
In 1 John 2:16 we read, “ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
It is written in Isaiah 13:11 “And I will punish the world for it’s evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.” And in Malachi 4:1 “For behold the day comes, that shall burn as a oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that come shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root or branch.”
So with all we see going on in the world, I would say there is some humbling pie that is going to be dished out here in the near future.
It is written, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble. Peace and God bless.
