“Now I urge you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God for me, that I may be rescued from those who are disobedient in Judea, and that my service for Jerusalem may prove acceptable to the saints; so that I may come to you in joy by the will of God and find refreshing rest in your company. Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.” (Romans 15:30-33 NASB1995)
There are still people in this world of ours today who are genuine followers of Jesus Christ who are following the example of Paul in his teachings, and who are missionaries to people in countries not their own. And not all of them have Bible college and seminary degrees, and not all of them are official workers of a particular church denomination who are being financially supported by other people. Some of them are just people who love God, who are called of God, and who are obeying the will of God for their lives.
In other words, all of us who are of genuine faith in the Lord Jesus are to be missionaries in taking the message of the gospel to the people of the world.
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” And we “are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” And we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world, and we are to be those who make disciples of people of all nations, teaching them to obey our Lord’s commandments.
[Matthew 5:13-16; Matthew 28:18-20; John 4:31-38; John 13:13-17; John 14:12; Acts 1:8; Acts 26:18; Romans 10:14-15; Ephesians 2:10; Ephesians 5:11-14; 1 Peter 2:9,21; 1 John 2:6]
And not all of us have to go physically to the people of these other nations, for the internet (at least in America) is still wide open for us to share the message of the gospel of our salvation via personal blogs, certain Christian discussion sites, and social media, etc. And I know this from personal experience, since the Lord called me to the internet 21 years ago to share with the world what he is teaching me each from my personal times with him in the Scriptures, and in prayer, under his leading and direction.
And do not judge the people’s responses based on “likes” or comments, for there are many people in other nations in the world who are reading these writings daily, that his servants are putting on the internet, who may never respond but who are taking it in, and God’s word will never return empty, but will accomplish what God desires and will achieve the purpose for which he sent it. Our job is just to listen to the Lord and to respond to him in obedience, and to share his word, in truth, and he will take it from there.
But whether we are alive and in person with the people of other nations, or we are posting our times of fellowship with the Lord on the internet to share with the people of the world, if we are following the leading of the Holy Spirit, and if we are teaching the gospel that Jesus taught, and that Paul and the other apostles taught, as they taught them in the proper context, God will get these messages to the people for whom he intends to receive them. And we need prayer, because Satan is trying to stop us any way he can.
And you do not have to be with people in person to get persecuted as Jesus and Paul and the other New Testament apostles were persecuted for their testimonies for the gospel of our salvation. If you post your times with God each day on the internet, although you may get some kind and thoughtful responses, be prepared to be treated harshly, too, and to be accused falsely of what you are not doing, and to be called a liar or a heretic by people who are following after the lies and who are unwilling to believe the truth.
Also, if you are someone who is actually teaching the gospel message that Jesus and his New Testament apostles taught, in their fulness, and so you are not diluting the gospel to make it more appealing and acceptable to human flesh and to the ungodly of the world, you might find yourself in the minority, even being opposed by others who profess faith in the Lord Jesus, but who are accepting an altered gospel message. And so be prepared that you might have to stand alone sometimes, but not alone because you have God who is with you who is leading you in the way of truth and godliness.
But please be students of the Scriptures who study them in the proper context, prayerfully, and who compare Scripture with Scripture to get a more complete picture of what is biblically being taught. And using Bible study helps is perfectly acceptable as long as you don’t begin to rely on certain theologians and commentators to be your Bible and to be your Holy Spirit. Always use outside sources with care under the direction of the Holy Spirit, as seekers of truth who want to be those who correctly handle God’s word.
And the truth is..
The grace of God, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we wait for Jesus’ return. For Christ “gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.” “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (See Titus 2:11-14; Ephesians 2:8-10)
For Jesus Christ taught that to come to him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in his power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).
[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 1:12-13; John 6:44; John 10:27-30; Acts 26:18; Romans 2:6-8; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 3:1-19; Hebrews 4:1-13; Hebrews 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 1:5-10; 1 John 2:3-6; 1 John 3:4-10]
As the Deer
By Martin J. Nystrom
Based off Psalm 42:1
As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after You
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You
You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You
