Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand delivers me. The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. Psalm 138:7-8 ESV
When going through difficult times or seasons of suffering, it’s understandable to feel abandoned by God and alone in your distress. These are common themes in the Psalms, and the fear of abandonment is to be expected when living by faith. However, each trial and difficulty is also an opportunity to reach out to God and to ask the Lord to draw near. God may not spare His people from trouble, but that doesn’t mean they are abandoned.
Today may be the day to call out, “Lord, do not abandon me!” There’s always pressure to appear that you have your act together and your faith is strong, but an honest prayer may be the most hopeful step you can take today.
Acknowledging the fear of abandonment asserts that God is real, present, and able to help, even if your faith is struggling. Such a prayer based on the Psalms can be a step in your restoration.
Prayer: Lord, I do not know what tomorrow will bring, but I trust that You are present today and that You will care for me in days to come.
