I do believe that Christians can have demons and go through deliverance but I want to get everyone’s input on it.
I just saw this thread.
Firstly, Scripture is SILENT on this issue...I say that because so many claim the Bible says its impossible, but the Bible does not say anything on the subject. Having stated that, we can glean truths from Scripture that are not "physically" written in Scripture.
Having said that...I do not believe a Christian (Scripturally defined as a person who has received salvation and the indwelling Holy Spirit by coming to God on HIS terms - NOT the false terms many seem to believe today - and who are actively walking in obedience to God) can be demon possessed.
Here we must make a demarcation: there is a difference between full possession, and "having a demon" because full possession encompasses the whole physical person (hence the demon possessed can walk up walls, break iron fetters bare-handed, etc., via the demon's powers), while a person who only "has a demon" is not fully possessed...they have only gained access to the person in an area of the flesh.
A Christian (defined as above) cannot be demon possessed because the Spirit of God is dwelling in their spirits, and He won't share with demons...but I do believe that a Christian can have a demon in their flesh because they have been doing things - ungodly things - that opens the door to unclean spirits. Here is a Biblical example:
Luke 13:10-16
10 Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.
11 And behold, there was a woman who had
had a disabling spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not fully straighten herself.
12 When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your disability."
13 And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and she glorified God.
14 But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, "There are six days in which work ought to be done. Come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day."
15 Then the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger and lead it away to water it?
16 And ought not
this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?"
First, this woman Jesus called "a daughter of Abraham," and while I cannot go into all of the details here, this phrase distinguishes her as a saved person under the OT designation. She did not have the Holy Spirit indwelling her that the text tells us about, but she was walking with God. Second, she was not fully possessed, the demon was only in the flesh and caused her to be hunched over...once the demon was cast out, she was no longer disabled.
Blessings.
