For You will save the humble people, But will bring down haughty looks. Psalm 18:27 NKJV
What do you think is the worst sin a man can commit? Sexual immorality? Fits of anger? Greed? Drunkenness? All these sins—and many others—are serious affronts to a holy God. But they are, in the words of C. S. Lewis, “mere fleabites” when compared with the terrible, soul-destroying sin of pride.
It has been suggested that pride is at the heart of every sin a man commits. When you consider that pride can be defined as a heart attitude of independence from God, then you can see how the above definition rings true.
All humans grow up with a heart condition of pride. But there is hope. Jesus came to earth and died so that we could be freed from and forgiven for all our sins, including human pride. The Bible says, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble” (James 4:6) and “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up” (James 4:10).
God loves humility and hates pride. So prayerfully and purposefully choose humility and the blessings God promises to the humble.
Prayer: Lord God, Your Word repeatedly teaches that You oppose the proud and arrogant but extend grace and mercy to those who humble themselves before You. Thank You for showing me the blessings of choosing humility over pride.
