Christian Persecution in Eritrea Increases.
They hate you because of me –
Eritrea used to be part of Ethiopia, but now, though masquerading as a Republic, it is for all intensive purposes at the opposite end of that political spectrum.

There have been many arrests of Christians of various denominations so far this month.
since the beginning of this year, 187 Christians have been arrested by the government and jailed after being charged for "'illegal' Christian activities."

Many christians has not been able to be traced after they where taken to jail, and mnay of them are taken to the hotest area of Eritrea which is called "WIEYA", its 50 c in the day time.
- One group arrested:
Last Saturday, 15 Christian women gathered in a private home for prayer were put under arrest and jailed at the police station in Keren, Eritrea’s third-largest town 40 miles northwest of Asmara.

Like China and other communistic regimes, Eritrea gives comrades the choice of a handful of government controlled religions. For Eritrea these are Catholic, Lutheran, Muslim, and Orthodox.

However, even the official "Christian" groups recognized by the government are now feeling pressure from the government.

Say your prayers for this country and our brothers and sisters within it's boarders.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention sister. I hadnt heard about what was happening to christians in your country, so I did a quick search, and what I found was soul wrenching...we will be praying for you.


"Almost 2000 Christians are currently detained indefinitely and without charge or trial in unhygienic and overcrowded conditions. Some are held in poorly ventilated underground cells and metal shipping containers. Torture is routinely practiced in detention centers, and CSW has received consistent reports from former detainees of inmates being rendered disabled as a result of mistreatment. There is even emerging evidence that extrajudicial executions have occurred in these centers."


Eritrea desperately needs our prayers!

Please pray:

For perseverance and strength for those who are jailed in cells, underground prisons and shipping containers: Rom. 5:3-5
That the current persecution might serve to advance the Gospel in the land: Phil 1:12-14
That God may work justice and righteousness for the oppressed: Ps. 103:6
That God may encourage their respective families in the absence of their loved ones: Rom. 8:28
That God may give sufficient grace to the persecuted church, to persevere the persecution till it passes this test of faith as gold in the refiner's fire: 1Pet 1:6-8
That God may provide for and give a sense of purpose to the Eritrean refugees in the neighboring countries: Is. 43:1-7

We have a small group Eritrean people in our congregation. Four weeks ago It was my pleasure to attend and represent one of these brothers at an Assylum Immigration Tribunal, conducted by the A.I.T Home Office. His application for assylum had previousl been rejected. Last weekend I was so pleased to hear that he has now been granted assylum within the British Isles.

Christians in Eritrea are in an extremely traumatic and life threatening situation. Many 1000s have died and are dying for their Christian faith. Christians in Eritrea are the most persecuted in the world just now. This information comes from the charity "Christian Solidarity Worldwide"
