As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him. Psalm 103:13 ESV

Compassion was once considered a personal weakness. It was the enemy of self-sufficiency. It meant mercy, grace, and love were extended to people who needed to learn a lesson. It seemed to offer a free pass to individuals who made yet another wrong choice.

Then you were handed your first child in the hospital, and all you could think about was the love you felt for that child. You went out of your way to demonstrate how much they meant to you. Compassion for your child changed you—and that same compassion will change them.

Love identifies who you are (John 13:35) and how you came to be this way (John 3:16). You respond to love. All humans do. Maybe that’s why God makes a big deal about it.

Compassion comes from God. You’re never more like God than when you share it. Love means your child will give your message another listen.

God’s love instills trust, and somehow feels like the home you’ve always wanted.

Prayer: Dear God, let me recognize Your compassion so I can share it with my children. May I take Your compassion and pass it on to those who think this gift is the stuff of fairy tales, fables, and folklore. May Your love transform me so compassion for others becomes as natural as breathing.
