Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come forth!" And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Loose him, and let him go." John 11:43-44

This familiar story is often told from Jesus' perspective, or from Lazarus' two sisters' perspective. But have you ever considered it from Lazarus' perspective? He was good friends with the Savior, the Messiah, and yet when Lazarus took ill, Jesus didn't come to his aid right away. In fact, He didn't show up until after the illness had claimed his life.

Perhaps you or someone you love is dealing with a serious or even terminal illness. You know that the Lord could heal you or your loved one, but for some reason He has chosen not to. Don't lose heart. God will be glorified, just as Jesus said to Martha in John 11:40: "Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?"

Do you have that sort of faith--one that rests in the fact that as a believer, the Lord is glorified in both the life and death of His saints? To live is Christ and to die is gain (Philippians 1:21). You can count on the fact that on the last day, Jesus will call your body forth from the grave when He returns for His saints.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I look forward to Your return, when You will make all things right and usher me into Your presence.
