No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God [is] faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear [it]. 1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV
Sadly, many Christian men today take a fatalistic approach to sin and temptation. I’m only human! They think. It’s a given that I’m going to sin. But while it is true that none of us will enjoy sinless perfection this side of heaven, it’s a lie straight from the devil’s mouth that it’s inevitable that we will give in to temptation.
The Bible never promises us a life free of temptation. We all will be tempted at times and in different ways. But we who want to live a life pleasing to the Lord can take heart and be encouraged in the truth that God is for us and will give us a way out of temptation if we simply go to Him and ask for the help we need to get through it without stumbling or falling.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I often feel an almost overwhelming temptation to do or say things I know are not pleasing to You. When I face temptation—and I know I will—help me to remember to turn first to You for a way out of it.
