"For My name's sake I will defer My anger, And [for] My praise I will restrain it from you, So that I do not cut you off. Isaiah 48:9

Today's verse is a sober one, God held numerous things against Israel. They invoked the name of God but didn't walk in righteousness (Isaiah 48:1). God knew them to be a stubborn people (48:4), who were rebels from birth (48:8). They were deserving of His wrath, but for His own name's sake, He delayed it.

God's name is holy. He's a jealous God who is unwilling to share His glory with anyone else. Does this make you uncomfortable when you think about your own behavior? You were born a rebel, deserving of God's wrath. You invoke His name but don't walk in righteousness--at least not perfectly, sometimes not even well.

But thanks be to God, you can trust in the fact that He paid the price for you, for His name's sake, in the person of Jesus. You've been set free from the penalty of sin. Now walk in newness of life in a way that is honoring to Him.

Prayer: Father, I'm so thankful that You paid a debt I could never pay. I know it cost You dearly, so I want to live in a way that honors You and Your name.
