Bible Trivia

John 2:1And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: 2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. 3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. 4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. 5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. 6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. 7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. 9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, 10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. 11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

Had Jesus made water into alcoholic wine or not?

If you believe that scriptural reference that He had done so, then you have to let go of that false notion that Christians did not drink alcoholic wine. This is why Christians are warned not to get drunk with wine where there is excess.

So when we read this verse below:

Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

It is an exhortation to not get drunk by drinking too much alcoholic wine, but remain sober and in self control which is another way of saying remain filled with the fruits of the Spirit.

Those who cannot stop drinking alcohol in knowing their limit from getting drunk, should not be drinking wine or beer or any other alcohol.

Those who can drink and not get drunk, should not be drinking in front of known alcoholics unless you cause them to stumble; You can't have alcohol around your home nor have the scent of alcohol on your breath in being around alcoholic. That means if a family member is an alcoholic, you cannot drink alcohol at all in the home or when you eat out together or go out to "get a drink". Causing a brother or a sister or even an unbeliever that is around you to stumble will be held against you if you keep doing that. The Lord will forgive you BUT you need to know He will hold it against you for continuing to cause someone else to stumble no matter how well you know when to stop when drinking alcohol from getting drunk and thus remaining sober.

Romans 14:16 Let not then your good be evil spoken of: 17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. 18 For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men. 19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another...……....21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.

Had Jesus made water into alcoholic wine or not?

Absolutely! And not only that, he also partook!

The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children. - Matthew 11:9 & Luke 7:34

Because it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a man, but what comes out of the mouth. - Matthew 15:11 & Mark 7:14-16
