Hi I'm Strages, I'm new here. I was wondering why there are so many different religions (especially within Christianity), and how one can tell which is the true religion. I'm a Catholic myself, so I believe that Catholicism has the fullness of truth. Mainly I'd like to know what other Christians believe. Thanks!

Welcome aboard Strages,
I used to be Catholic myself. You have come to right place here at TJ if you truly seek with an open mind to know the difference between what you've been told verses what is in the Bible. I've phrased it this way, because, not everything that you've been told has its origin in scripture. There are many who here who will help, with understanding, but it’s really up to you to pray and read the Bible to know God's truth.

P.S. Plenty of folks here will answer your questions. Just be prepared that the answers you receive might not be what you would expect them to be. They also will not be given with the intent to hurt, insult, though they may seem that way at the time. Praying for you.

thank you! yeah, i've heard a lot of different Christian beliefs... I want to know Jesus more, how did you get to know Him?

I want to share with you something that I posted in my social network profile, in the time when everybody was greeting her 'happy birthday' and thanking her like a god.

FYI:
Mary doesn't have any powers or so, infact she even ask for Jesus to do miracles. (John 2:1-5)

Why does anyone need to ask her to pray for them?? when you can do it yourself. Christianity is not like politics that in order to be close to Jesus you need to be close to the other people you think was close to Him.

Jesus doesn't need any middleman, He is the only middleman.

"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." -John 14:6

This is always how i see catholicism if u ask me.

But I want you to know that I am glad to see you interested to be here at talkJesus and to know Jesus, it'll be really helpful for you to read on threads like "Seeking Jesus" and "Bible Study" area.

Most importantly, it is not about religion, its about relationship... with Jesus, a steady and open communiction with him wherein you talk to him and listen to him by reading the Word.
You will came to know Jesus the way we did and still does, pray, read the Bible.

You're always welcome to view my testimony.

Praying, reading, and studying the NT Gospels really helped get an opening to understanding Jesus. Writing down any questions you might have will also help. God understands that we will have questions. He even knows before we do what they might be

Through Jesus as our Lord and Savior who died on the Cross and rose again on the third day, through grace and faith that this is true, in our repentance we will have an eternity to grow in knowing both God and Jesus.

John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Gives me goose bumps just contemplating this! Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

You've come to a site here at TJ, where you will find many who will be willing to help you. All you have to do is ask

oh, i wasn't taught that it was because of her powers that i should pray to her (or the saints). it was because they are without sin, and so i should ask them to pray for me, just like i would ask you to pray for me. (since they no longer have sin) isn't this right?

wait a minute, so it doesn't matter whether i know Jesus or not? in fact, is it better for me to not be a religion, so that i can get the fullness of the variety of faiths?

You will know you are saved when you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that there is only one Saviour, only One who has paid the price for your Redemption and that Saviour is the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Scripture says: “If you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Rom. 10:9-10).

Your Salvation is a gift from God. You simply have to believe and accept that the Lord Jesus Christ died on Calvary to pay the price for your redemption.

The Scripture says: “For by Grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is a gift of God; not of works lest any man should boast" (Eph. 2:8-9)

Most Catholics are depending on there faith in the "Catholic church" and the Pope and not in Jesus Christ.....ALONE.

Welcome to the forum.

It does matter strages. Remember when you read the Bible, one of the first things you have to also keep in mind, is that you have to keep the writings in context of the Scripture as a whole, then NT or OT, then Book, Chapter, Verse. Too easy to take one verse, and create an entire doctrine out of it. Take great care how you define something that you've read, for yourself or from others. Universalism believes that eventually everyone will be saved, so what religion you practice doesn’t matter as long as you adhere to what that religion believes. I once heard a Unitarian state it was like having a window with many panes which the light of God reflected through. Each one was a reflection of the same God, yet received in a different fashion, be it Islam, Buddhism, Hindu etc. I suggest that before you go delving into areas along those lines, it might be better to get an understanding of Salvation from the Bible and the Gospels in particular. RCC (Roman Catholic Church) has already provided enough different teachings to last you a life time! I know. I still remember how to say a Hail Mary and it has been near 30 something years since I had to say one LOL You’re going to have a tough time unlearning some things as the below entry will show.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

oh, i wasn't taught that it was because of her powers that i should pray to her (or the saints). it was because they are without sin, and so i should ask them to pray for me, just like i would ask you to pray for me. (since they no longer have sin) isn't this right?

I know. The RCC believes that at the moment of conception Mary became without sin. Not true and there is no scriptural foundation for this. The same goes for the Saints. The only mediator between us and God is Jesus.

1 Tim 2:5 For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

The Bible teaches us that even the Saints are not without sin and they also need the grace of Jesus.

Our very bodies are full of sin, or the results of sin, God even gave instructions to those conducting the original sacrifices to wear trousers when walking up steps of an alter. So we are sin. No one not even a saint is free of it.

I would suggest reading the bible, and understanding it as a whole.

Once you do such worries cease to be concerns. The very word of God talks to you. I find it amazing. So complex at first, but yet so very simple. So all can understand.

but doesn't the bible also say

James 2:14-26

14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your[] works, and I will show you my faith by my[] works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?[] 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”[]And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

believing is the first part, then don't we also have to use faith, and do good works?

no, i meant that in heaven they have no sin (don't you have to?). They did sin, but after they get to heaven they no longer have sin.

I dunno, God is still teaching me on some things. So I simply say we all sin, and there is but one who is without sin and that is Jesus. Will we be totally sin free in heaven or just accepted due to the sacrifice Christ made?? I think it is a question I do not know and afraid to speculate on, simply do not know. I do know we grow all the time, and each day we find sin more to our distaste. I do know this.

He is the only one and the only way.

God is jealous, and if you set anyone or anything above him it is not a good thing.

There is no possible way I can convince you of this, as all of us are formed in many ways by the things we are taught since birth. And not a thing wrong with that .

But God will talk to all, just like he is talking to you, you are here for a purpose, to listen and question. God did that.

So now you will be curious enough to go read the bible and find out yourself.

There is only one way.....and that is with Jesus.

Kit

I really think that this further discussion should be continued in the Seeking Jesus thread, but as my final post for this thread, I just wanna share as simple as I can to you strages

All have sinned Romans 3:23
and the penalty of it is death Romans 6:23
But God is so gracious that He gave his only son Jesus to die for our sins John 3:16
Therefore those who will accept Jesus Christ as his/her Savior, that instead of us, he took the penalty of death..Him who have not sin at all... those who will believe will be free from the wages of sin.

One more thing, example...
you have committed a crime & you will be punished for sure, yet you are given a privileged to come and personally talk and ask for forgiveness to the president of your country(whom have the power to give you pardon), will you still talk to someone you think have not sinned and maybe the president will believe him/her or will you take that chance to go to him straight?
And what if the moment you come to the president he will say to you
"Ok,I forgive you and instead of you getting punished for the crime, I will took the punishment, you are now free."
How will you feel?

that is just a president, but we are talking about Jesus... He love us so much that He is willing to forgive everyone who comes to him.. even if we think we dont deserve it, even if we think we are not worth it. That is grace. And I hope you will took this time to pray, talk to Him, and give your heart to Him, stop asking questions and start asking for forgiveness, believe that He took the punishment for your sins and give your life to Him.

John 3:15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in.

Col_1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

Rom_12:4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:

2Co_3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
Each of us are His ministers ,none greater or less! All under the LORD JESUS CHRIST ONLY !
We Do not lift up each other above others!

Rom_12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
1Ti_5:21 I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

Rom_2:11 For there is no respect of persons with God.
GOd does not count one person above others!

Col_3:25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

Jas_2:9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

No sinner goes to Heaven ! That is why GOD is not in the first heaven! It was defiled by sin.The fallen angels went before the LORD and defiled it!

Job_1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
Job_2:1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.

Joh_14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Joh_14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Rev_3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
Rev_21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Heb_12:22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

No evil can enter New Jerusalem
Rev 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

At salvation God gives us a new spirit that is clean of sin! It perfect like our Father GOD !

1Co_6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

He only changes our Spirit man! We still live in sin filled bodies!

1Pe_4:18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

The righteous is our new spirit !

2Co_6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.Rom_1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation

Joh_3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Joh_3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
1Pe_1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Brothers & Sisters in Christ Jesus,
Remember what he is repeating is what he has been taught and not necessarily what he has learned. Strages has yet to walk, and you want him to start running. Keep that in mind as you respond.
