Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 2 Peter 3:13-14
Have you ever done everything you can to demonstrate godly love to someone, only to have that person repay your good with evil-evil words, evil attitudes, and evil actions? When faced with such situations--and they are a part of life here on earth--many Christians are tempted to turn to God, and protest, "It's just not fair!"
No, it's not fair when a Christian suffers for doing what is good and right in God's eyes. But today's verse gives a twofold promise for the believer in such a situation. First, it promises that, even if doing good is accompanied by persecution, the man of God needn't fear any lasting harm as a result. Second, it promises that God sees his suffering and will find a way to bring him blessing in the midst of it.
Those are some amazing, comforting promises, aren't they? Your part in claiming them is to trust God enough to continue doing what you know is right in His eyes.
Prayer: Father in heaven, I commit myself to doing good for You and for others and to leaving the results in Your hands.
