John 6:27 “Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures unto eternal life which the son of man will give you for Him has the Father sealed.”
Was this a command or a suggestion? If a command, why do we as believers and followers of Christ, work to put food on the table?
I believe the answer is simple, unbelief. Generally speaking people who call themselves Christian today, simply don’t believe the commands of the LORD Yeshua are to be taken literally.
But all of the disciples did.
Matthew 19:27 “Then answered Peter and said unto Him, Behold we have forsaken all and followed you. What will we have therefore?
Why did they do this?
Luke 14:33 “so therefore if anyone does not forsake all that he has, he cannot be my disciple.”
The early church followed these teachings literally as well.
Acts 2:44-45 “and all that BELIEVED were together and had all things in common; and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.”
Acts 4:32&34 “and of the multitude of them that BELIEVED were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things in common…Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold…
The LORD Yeshua did not have a job, His work was doing the will of the Father. He required all of His disciples to prioritize following and serving Him above all else. They all quit their jobs. Matthew 6:24-33 tells us the Father will provide for us if we follow Him and abandon our self reliance.
Literal application of the commands of Christ is the key to discovering the lifestyle that leads to eternal life. This is also known as the narrow path, which few find.
