a Week ago we sit in homecell and just talk about giving. So they started a question:" Do you give beggers money for food, or do you buy them food?"
Think this is a interestting poll.

Probably food first. Then again, maybe it might not make a difference. You give them money and they buy their own choice of food.

The first question we must ask is who are we serving? Christ?
That puts your question into perspective. If its Christ we giving to, then we must ask HIM what He wants us to do. Only God can truly know the needs of the person He has allowed to cross your path.

Would we be a little more generous, if we could see that it was Christ who is holding His hand out to us?

Mat 25:44 Then shall they also answer, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying;

"Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not unto one of these least, ye did it not unto me. And these shall go away into eternal punishment:"

Well why you would give them money, and why not to give them money?

Okay you would give them money so they can get there own food and or drugs because some beggers that all they think is impotant well it ant impotant food is.
So you could give them food so they could have something to eat along with some money so they can get what they want.

I feel led to share somthing with you,

I was in a city where i had 4 or 5 hours to spare i had 10 pound in my wallet, and i had compassion on this homeless person, i thought about giving this person the money, then i felt in my spirit the unction to go in to a bookmakers near by.
( never been one for gambling) when i went in to this unfamiliar teritory, i wondered if there was any horses with my wifes name and id bet on it, just to pass time.
There wasnt any, and i thought what am i doing in here. So as i was about to leave the place out of the corner of my eye i saw a tv screen with grayhound dogs and there was a dog with my wifes name Vicki, this was 13:45 and the race was 13:50, i immeadiately knew i had to put the 10 pounds on this dog, i came in first at 5 to 1 and i won 50 pounds plus my 10 back = 60 pounds.

Then i went out and blessed 6 homeless people with 10 pounds each, it wasnt my money, the holy spirit is always with us and sometime we dont know how we are in a situation that we are in but to follow that spontanious thought as God has plans bigger than we can imagine.

If id choosen to bless that one person at the beguining that would have been good, but with god theres always multiplication, and if we do it his way then i got to bless 6, wow i was blessed in the process, what would have normally been a boring 4 or 5 hours turned out to be an adventure with the holyspirit. Thankyou Jesus

I do not write this so i can look good

Father its all for your Glory and to show people your heart to bless others, if we will only listen to the unction of your precious holy spirit. Amen

Be blessed

"what would have normally been a boring 4 or 5 hours turned out to be an adventure with the holyspirit. Thankyou Jesus"

Wow I was blessed just reading that, thank you! Glory to God!

"The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field; which indeed is smaller than all seeds. But when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches."

Good story/testimony JJ. Thank you for sharing this. Nice to see how GOD works, always watching over the needy, the poor and thirsty.

J.J I am amazed. Lost for words in fact. It teaches me that I need to be aware that God, yes the Almighty, does not need me to work out how people are going to get blessed. He has all in His control.
Amen

AMEN stephen, this testimony has been amazing me all day long! :)
What awesome things God does when we simply listen...and obey...

Unless I feel in the spirit I would give the beggar food because we have people dressing up as homeless people just to get money to spend on drugs.

I say food cause if you go out and give em money then they can spend it on drugs or alcohol if theyr adicted but if you give em food they can only eat it.

Give em a bible :)! I really think money is fine. Whatever they will spend it on they usually need the money more than I do, and God wants to see us help them. What they do with the money is up to them, but you are doing good in God's eyes giving to them. Personally If I was homeless and someone gave me food, I probably wouldn't eat it. I would worry about what was in it etc. :) What would be great is if you had a bunch of those pocket New Testaments, and you could hand them those with the cash or food.

Jesus in distressing disguise is the poor

Jesus said " I will be always with you"...then again he said "The poor also will be always with you"...Jesus comes in distressing disguise of the poor...if they cheat or lie it is also their spiritual poverty...we need to see Jesus in them and give them what they need immediately...:boy_hug: :girl_hug:

A Decent Meal

:rose: Hi there. To give money or food. A bit of a time ago, I was in Toronto and chanced upon a young girl asking for money for food. I asked her to hold on and went to a restaurant and ordered a meal to go, with two cartons of milk.

She did wait for my return. She said that her father, (who lived 60 miles away), was asking her to come home. He was poor and couldn't afford for her bus fare, so I gave her a bit of money too. I really do hope that it was put to good use.

I also sponser a child in South America. You wouldn't believe what difference my $33.00 a month does for her, her family and her community. I urge anyone who has thoughts of sponsering a child, to really reach out and do it. The little girl with the scowly face, that I sponsered is now a teen so happy and with goals to be a teacher. They had a two room shack when I first pledged and now they have home with bedrooms and Laura looks so good and healthy.
Doing this, you are giving both money and food.

Please, as Chad has asked, make that step to help out, through organizations like Christian Children's Fund and so many other worthy charities and please donate food or money, to the homeless in your area. The reward is simply just so wonderful.

I am not sure whether I would give food or money. I kinda like to think that I would do both.

P.S. I give from my disability pension. I am pretty poor. If I can do it, so many of you can. Amen: Pixie:rose:

Neither.

But not because I am mean. Charity handed out on the street can have an unfortunate side effect that it actually keeps people on the street. While there is a source of money or food for people to beg, there is less incentive for them to move on and start to put their lives back together.

I give to a homeless charity and I support the Big Issue magazine, which is a form of employment for homeless magazine sellers.

And stopping for an occasional chat and sharing a bag of chips with people on the street does no harm.

You have got to be kidding!

Only a man or woman whos never had the misfortune of finding themselves living on the other side of the tracks could sing that song without even a prick of conscience.

Sounds like clanging cymbals...

I have lived on the other side of the tracks, and it would be an understatement to say your "sharing a bag of chips with them will do no harm" is the most arrogant drivel I ever heard come out of anyones mouth.

Perhaps instead of "giving" to a homeless shelter, you could try "volunteering" to live in one for awhile (which is what you seem to think the homeless are doing) ...then maybe...just maybe you`ll get why i`m rebuking you.

Hey that sounds a bit harsh.

My point is that I want my money to go to where it can help people the most. And my money goes to projects that look to the longer term - training in interview skills for jobs, advice on accessing benefits as well as meeting the immediate needs of food and shelter for the night.

The bag of chips comment may have sounded flippant, but I prefer to eat my lunch in the park whenever I have the chance. Quite a few homeless people gather there and sometimes I end up in conversation and share a sandwich.

The people there may think I am an arrogant driveler, but so far they have been too polite to tell me to my face.

Think this is a interestting poll.

Beggars are becoming more prolific today. We have professional beggars in London. They pick up £200 a day MmMmMm Bringing old clothes which they don for the day. So I have been told..........I don't have reason to doubt what has been witnessed.

Surely this is a day of deception as never before.

As I pass these people sitting in the cold in my town, at this time of the year. I may or I may not throw £1 in the cap.

I do not have the time to go shopping for sandwiches

I give money unless the person specifically asks for food. I struggle at times, because I realize some who beg for money will buy drugs. My heart aches for homeless people and I always thank the Lord for blessing me with a roof over my head and food to eat.

Some years ago I was often on the streets of Liverpool city center between 12 noon and 11.30pm And I meet all the different types of people who beg money. A lot of people who have become homeless in the UK end up involved with the various charities specifically designed to help them. The charity behind the Big Issue does a great job in getting homeless people turned around and headed back on the road to normality. They give them a job selling the magazine, 'The Big Issue,' a lot of the profit from the magazine goes into their own pocket; so they are self-employed after a fashion. This charity also offer lots of other types of support too.

The other types of people I used to come across on the streets were the professional beggars. There weren't to many of them about on the streets of Liverpool, but the ones that were there were very good actors. Some looked down and out and at the end of their tether, put it was a performance like and actor on stage. I used to sometimes see them when the performance was over and they made their money for the day and were heading home. One of these men used to say God bless you, if you gave him money and it sounded if he really meant it – he might have – and people got a real lift from giving to him, but he was not homeless he had a wife two children and a home and he should have been gainfully employed.

There was another type of person who was recently homeless who seemed to be in a transition stage and just needed to find out what sort of help was available. These people were often really thankful if you gave them a nice sandwich, food seemed to be higher on their engender that getting money. There were other beggars who were after money to by drugs but I'm not to sure there were that many of them about. It seems that people who need to support a drug habit do it through crime, not primarily through begging on the streets. I sometimes used to wonder whether the person sitting on a peace of cardboard in the freezing cold at 11pm, was drug addict or just someone who was temporarily homeless through events that were beyond their control. One thing is for sure these were the people who were really homeless and were thankful for some nice food.

One way I found of finding out the truth of a homeless persons situation was to ask one of his associates. They seldom ever told you the full truth about them selves, but they seemed to be prepared to tell more of the truth about someone else. That was one way of finding out who was honest and who wasn't.

Blessings,
Tonyb
