Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die--ever. Do you believe this?" John 11:25-26 LSB
Jesus’ close friend Lazarus had died, and when He arrived in Lazarus’ hometown of Bethany, He spoke the most beautiful—and meaningful—words of condolence ever spoken. Lazarus’ sister Martha ran to meet Jesus as He entered Bethany. Martha believed that her brother would one day be raised from the dead, but Jesus was about to show her that He had power over death.
With nothing but the command “Lazarus, come forth!” Jesus brought Lazarus from a darkened tomb into the daylight. Jesus, the man who had just called Himself “the resurrection and the life,” proved that death was no obstacle for Him.
Jesus is our one and only source of resurrection and eternal life. Without Him, we have neither, but with Him we will one day be raised from the dead and will have everlasting life.
Do you believe this? If so, take heart! Because Jesus has defeated death, you will see God’s eternal kingdom.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You truly are my source of everlasting life. I know that I will die one day. But I know without a doubt that at the moment I draw my last breath I’ll be with You in heaven.
