One of the strongest warnings against deception for the end of this world that Lord Jesus and His Apostles gave His Church, was that of a coming false-Christ that will work great signs and wonders, that if it were possible, would deceive even His very elect.
Apostle Paul also gave that similar warning in 2 Thess.2, and Apostle John in Rev.13 about the "another beast". Even in 2 Corinthians 11 Paul was warning us about this "another Jesus".
The following warning from Lord Jesus is not about John's plural "many antichrists" idea. The context of the following is about SINGULAR Antichrist figure...
Matt 24:23-26
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, "Lo, here is Christ, or there"; believe it not.
Did Jesus say in the above if any man says to you, "Lo, here are many Christs"? No, He was speaking of one false Christ the deceived will say is here, not many. That is singular tense.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
That "false Christs" phrase is the Greek word pseudochristos (NT:5580). In some cases you could translate that in the plural many sense, but what is Christ's subject here that He began with in the previous verse? He started the subject about a SINGULAR false-Christ, not many. The 26th verse further below is clearly in the SINGULAR tense about a false-Christ also. I believe it is because of this that Dr. James Strong defined that Greek pseudochristos as 'a spurious Messiah' in his Strong's Exhaustive Concordance for this very reason. Greek pseudochristos is actually made up of 2 Greek words, pseudo which means false, and christos which is singular for Christ.
Thus I strongly believe, along with Dr. James Strong, that Jesus was pointing to a SINGULAR false-Messiah coming to work those "great signs and wonders" that if it were possible, would deceive even His very elect. And that is also more food for thought that Lord Jesus gave us with that miracle working idea in relation to His very elect.
What did Lord Jesus mean by that then, that if it were possible, His elect would be deceived by those 'great signs and wonders' by that coming false-Messiah?
Firstly, it is not... possible for His very elect to be deceived, for He has already shown them by The Holy Spirit, as His very elect are 'sealed' all the way to the end of this world. So just how powerful would those great signs and wonders have to be, in order to almost... deceive even His very elect? Do you understand He gave us that as a measure for how powerful those great signs and wonders will be so they will deceive the whole world, except Christ's elect? And it will be a coming false-Messiah in Jerusalem for the time of great tribulation that will do that miracle working He showed.
25 Behold, I have told you before.
When The LORD repeats an idea like that, He is being emphatic about the event. It means to really... pay attention.
26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, "Behold, He is in the desert"; go not forth: "behold, He is in the secret chambers"; believe it not.
KJV
Once again, Jesus warns us that if someone comes up to us and says, "Behold, He is in the desert", or "behold, He is in the secret chambers", do not believe it. Did Jesus say "they are in the desert" or "they are in the secret chambers"? No. He was speaking of a SINGULAR false-Messiah with that, just like in the above 23rd verse.
Likewise in 2 Thessalonians 2:4-9, Apostle Paul pointed to a singular false one coming to work those signs and wonders, and that will exalt himself as God in the "temple of God" (a traditional Jewish stone temple in Jerusalem). That temple idea is what Jesus was warning us about with those who will be claiming Christ has come, and that He is in the secret chambers of that temple.
Also through Apostle John in Revelation 13:11 forward, we are shown about the "another beast" singular entity that will work those signs and miracles to deceive the whole world, even raining fire down to the earth from heaven in the sight of men.
In all 3 of those Scripture cases, it is about the same false-Messiah that is coming to Jerusalem for the time of "great tribulation" playing Christ with the power to do miracles like Lord Jesus.
Now we have already had many that have come claiming... to be Christ, but could they do those great signs and wonders that Jesus warned us about? No. So those were only servants of The Antichrist/false-Messiah. The coming false-Messiah will actually have the power to work those great signs and wonders that will deceive the whole world, except Christ's elect.
Are you prepared to NOT be deceived by that coming false-Messiah working those great signs and wonders? Already there are many Christian brethren that are seeking out all kinds of manifestations in some Churches which they claim are of The Holy Spirit. Is laughing uncontrollably evidence of The Holy Spirit? Is getting down on all fours like an animal, and barking like a dog, evidence of The Holy Spirit? Some of those things some brethren are actively seeking today, but those manifestations are not from God.
And just imagine how much more powerful manifestations there will be by the coming false-Messiah when he shows up at the end of this world. As written, the whole world (except Christ's elect) will believe that false-Messiah really is GOD having come to earth. It won't be though. Our Lord Jesus Christ will show up later to destroy that false-Messiah, and we are to be patient waiting for Jesus to come.
So is your Church warning about that coming pseudo-Christ for the "great tribulation" which is very close now?
