But this people has a defiant and rebellious heart; They have revolted and departed. They do not say in their heart, "Let us now fear the LORD our God, Who gives rain, both the former and the latter, in its season. He reserves for us the appointed weeks of the harvest." Your iniquities have turned these [things] away, And your sins have withheld good from you. Jeremiah 5:23-25 NKJV
The people of Israel may have shown up at the temple to worship regularly and observe religious feast days, but their hearts remained stubborn and rebellious. Deep down in their hearts, they didn’t fear the Lord and didn’t expect to face any consequences for their sinful actions. Since they weren’t living by faith in God’s provision and mercy, they failed to see how their lives could have been better in God’s care.
Consider whether your actions match your beliefs today. Are you looking after yourself right now, as if you don’t believe God can provide for you? Are you living in such a way that you expect Him to hold you accountable for what you’ve done? There is no fooling God, and you are likely reaping what you have sown already. God desires to be with you in the highs and lows of life, but if you neglect Him, don’t be surprised if your life starts to feel chaotic and overwhelming with no relief in sight.
Prayer: Help me, Lord, to repent of my rebellion and stubbornness so that I can live in Your mercy and kindness.
