‘Furthermore, I declare to you that the LORD himself will build a house for you. 1 Chronicles 17:10 CSB

On the whole, men are doers. We like to accomplish things—for ourselves, our loved ones, our communities and churches. God made us to work like our ancestor Adam: “The LORD God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it. (Genesis 2:15) The work we do is honorable and necessary…though we must keep our doing in balance with our being.

When David was crowned ruler of all Israel, he prepared his own home in the capital of Jerusalem and—with great fanfare—brought the Ark of the Covenant into the city. He soon felt a nagging guilt, though: “When David had settled into his palace, he said to the prophet Nathan, "Look! I am living in a cedar house while the ark of the LORD's covenant is under tent curtains." (1 Chronicles 17:1). David wanted to erect a temple for God, who completely turned the tables on him, as you read above. The Lord would “build a house” for David, the eternal kingship of his descendant Jesus.

Let’s do what God tells us but more importantly be who He says—humble, loyal, obedient, loving sons. And let’s pray, as David did.

Prayer: “So now, you have been pleased to bless your servant's house that it may continue before you forever. For you, LORD, have blessed it, and it is blessed forever.” (1 Chronicles 17:27)

I read in a book that we are called human beings not human doings. I love that. I think people can get prideful and egotistical and want to achieve and accomplish a lot on their own instead of being dependent on God. What do you all think?

Hello @chihuahua14
Agree. That's why it is harder for men to seek God and worship Him. They like to do it on their own, and rarely like the help or admit they need it.
Women are better at submitting, unless they are told they should, then they're as bad as the men! :)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
