Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. 1 Timothy 6:17

It's easy to default to trusting in money. After all, it seems to solve problems, resolve anxieties, create friends, and generally make people happy. But there's a harsh reality behind this rosy picture.

Paul taught that money is unreliable. You might not have chosen that word, but think about it. Recent recessions wiped out billions of dollars of savings overnight. Banks collapsed. Financial institutions' folded. Solomon warned, "In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle. (Proverbs 23:5 NLT)

If you have money, good for you. Chances are good you worked hard or smart (or both) to earn it. But you still shouldn't put too much trust in it. That's tantamount to trusting in yourself, and Deuteronomy 8:18 (NKJV) says that "you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth." God is a surer foundation than wealth. He supplies everything you need, including love, faith, peace, and assurance before Him.

Prayer: God, I trust You above all things. Thank You for the wealth You've enabled me to earn. May I invest wisely, spend thriftily, give generously, and--above all-trust in You.

Money... too much can bring so many problems, too little and life can be so hard, how much is right for us?

Jesus says, When you pray say, Our Father, who art in heaven...
Give us this day our daily bread, enough for each day, food, drink, clothing, roof over our head, heating, money etc.

Enough for the day, enough for the next 24 hours.

Riches create materialism, where our treasure is our heart is also.

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than a rich man to go to heaven.

We can't live without it, but we can have too much, it is a daily need, give us this day our daily bread Lord.

1 Timothy 6:10-21 (NKJV)
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
13 I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate,
14 that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ's appearing,
15 which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,
16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.

17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.
18 Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share,
19 storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

20 O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge--
21 by professing it some have strayed concerning the faith. Grace be with you. Amen.

Dear Brother,
Rightly said verses brother.

It does remind me of those in the near past that we've had here who were taking those very same opening verse to mean that we needed to get rid of all our money, because it was money that was evil, and not just how we used it, or the importance that we placed in it.

Thanks for sharing those verses.
With the Love of Christ Jesus.

Thank you for your kind words Nick

We let the Truth speak from scripture.

Although I intended to add v24, I cannot leave the rest, again it brings me back to The Lord's Prayer.

Do not worry about what we will eat, drink, wear or even money
For our heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'

Our Father who art in Heaven...
Give us this day our daily bread...
Father provide for our daily needs, food, drink, clothes, roof over our head, heating and money.

There is evil in money, money is not evil

Matthew 6:24-34 (NKJV)
24 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

25 "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28 So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;
29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'
32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek.
For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Blessings

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness

Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till He come and rain righteousness upon you.
Hosea 10:12

And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
James 3:18
