If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. Hebrews 12:7-8 NKJV
When you’re going through difficulties or pain, do you ever wonder if maybe God isn’t paying attention or as if He doesn’t care? Well, your spiritual adversary, the devil, wants you to think that way, so he tempts you with thoughts such as I think God must hate me or Maybe God has forgotten about me.
Today’s verse strongly suggests that your suffering may be the surest sign that God loves you as one of His own children, for He uses hardships to discipline, train, and transform believers.
God gives His Holy Spirit, who strengthens you for your battles against sin. He also uses your most difficult life situations to help prepare you for those battles. Your part in this arrangement is to make sure you don’t lose heart. Instead, submit yourself under His hand of discipline, knowing it is a sign of great things to come.
Prayer: Loving Father in heaven, I confess that I don’t always enjoy Your hand of discipline on me. Yet I know that it’s for my own good and for the good of Your kingdom. It is also evidence that I belong to You and that You love me as a son.
