If it seems like marketing companies are going into overdrive this holiday season, they are. Many retail establishments depend on Christmas to be able to be open the rest of the year. They need us to spend money, promising us that we deserve to get good things, and we can only show others love by buying them things too.
To pay for all these gifts, we work overtime, sacrifice sleep, and end up being grumpy with our family—if we have time to see them!—all in the name of showing them love.
Soon, the holiday season will be over. The money will all be spent. The gifts you give will break or be forgotten, and your family will only remember how you weren’t around because you were working so much.
Of course, it doesn’t need to be like that. This holiday season, let enough be enough. Learn to be content. Don’t buy into the marketing requiring you to buy more, more, more. Spend some time enjoying the gifts of this season together with others. Though the moments may fly by like the proverbial riches, you’ll be able to save them in your memory forever.
