Eternal Life
What is eternal life? Every body is going to live forever, and we are simply determining the location of where we are going to live. A person is either a child of God, or a child of the devil, either a child of light, and of the day or a child of the night, and of darkness. there is no such a thing as just being me alone.
Eternal simply means “ perpetual: - eternal, for ever, everlasting” Eternal life is not just the duration of life, but the “quality” of that life. Living forever in hell, or the lake of fire in darkness is not my idea of a good quality of life to spend eternity!! To me, that would like going to the dentist for a root canal, and never being able to leave that torture chair forever!!! “Oouch”
Jesus describes to us exactly what eternal life is.......
John 17:3 And THIS IS LIFE ETERNAL, THAT THEY MIGHT KNOW THEE the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
Jesus was referring to his Father as he prayed this. Eternal life is KNOWING God!!! Eternal life is NOT knowing ABOUT the Lord God in the Bible, because a lot of people know about God. Knowing about him, and knowing him are two completely different things. it is having a intimate one on one relationship with our Heavenly Father through, and by Jesus Christ.
This relationship can not even begin until we take his Word, and deposit it into our hearts (spirit, not our brain), and protect it from the cares of this world so that the Word can bring forth it's first fruit, which is the new birth! (1 Peter 1:23)
John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, IF YE CONTINUE IN MY WORD, then are ye my disciples indeed;
John 8:32 And YE SHALL KNOW THE TRUTH, AND THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE.
Notice: Truth has NEVER set anyone free before, until they first “KNOW” the truth, then it sets them free!! It's one thing to have the truth, and it's another to “KNOW” that truth you have.
Knowing is having a intimate relationship with. It is kinda like when the scripture says, “and Adam KNEW Eve, and she bore him a son....” (Gen 4:1)
Jesus gives us more insight to how we get to KNOW God. Remember Jesus said eternal life is knowing his Father, and the one to whom he has sent, which is Jesus himself.
John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and KEEPETH THEM, HE IT IS THAT LOVETH ME: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I WILL LOVE HIM, AND WILL MANIFEST MYSELF TO HIM.
Jesus said the man who really loves me is the one who “keeps” my commandments. Commandments are given through his Word. The word “keepeth” means to “protect, and guard”. Protect and guard from what? The cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, the lusts of other things which would choke the Word from producing it's intended results.
Jesus then tells us exactly how he is going to love back in return.
“….I WILL LOVE HIM, AND WILL MANIFEST MYSELF TO HIM. “ (John 14:21)
The word “manifest” means to “uncover something once hidden, to take a cover off, to reveal”
Once this happens this is “knowing” God up close and personal!!!
Jesus reveals to us who the people will be whom he is coming for. He referred it in a parable of 10 virgins carrying lamps who are awaiting the return of the groom to take them away.
Mat 25:1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
Mat 25:2 And FIVE OF THEM WERE WISE, AND FIVE WERE FOOLISH.
Mat 25:3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
Mat 25:4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
Mat 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
Mat 25:7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
Mat 25:8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
Mat 25:9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
Mat 25:10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
Mat 25:11 AFTERWARD CAME ALSO THE OTHER VIRGINS, SAYING, LORD, LORD, OPEN TO US.
Mat 25:12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I KNOW YOU NOT.
It is interesting that all 10 virgins would have come from the same congregation, but the only ones taken are the ones who “KNOW” God. The others just played the part, and looked real to every body. How sad is that?
