Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh:
yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh,
yet now henceforth know we him no more.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:
old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
And all things are of God,
Who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ,
and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself,
not imputing their trespasses unto them;
and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
(2 Cor. 5:16-19)
Hello
@Bill,
In response to your words concerning knowing Jesus physically, 'in the flesh', I thought of the verses above.
Paul and His fellow-workers had been given the ministry of reconciliation, hadn't they? They no longer saw mankind '
after the flesh', they testified to all whom they met, regardless of nationality, or position in society. Any man who believed their message and received the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord was known and loved, cherished and fed on the written word, and on the testimony of Christ that they held. They were brought to God in Christ, as those who had died with Him, been buried and raised with Him, and now walked in newness of life before the Father. Their spiritual welfare was Paul's concern, and he would have ministered unto them the things of the spirit, and prayed for them.
On this level we too should view those around us, shouldn't we? Not on the basis of the flesh, but of the spirit. In consideration of their spiritual welfare, and need, as well as their physical needs and requirements. So often the emphasis is on providing for physical necessities, when their eternal welfare should be our concern.
We also need to go on to know Christ in all His fulness, don't we? Leaving behind babyhood, and the needs and requirements of the flesh, to come into Christ, where He is at God's right hand, Having died with Christ, been buried, quickened and raised with Him, by the grace and power of God, we are walking now in newness of life before the Father, in the Spirit. Looking for His appearing in glory, when He Who is our life, shall appear, and we too will appear with Him in glory.
That is the hope of the members of the Body of Christ, for whom Christ is the Head isn't it? We will live looking, and praise God for the finished work of Christ.
Within the love of Christ our Saviour,
our Lord and Head.
Chris
