Excessive Immorality Among You

“It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father’s wife. You have become arrogant and have not mourned instead, so that the one who had done this deed would be removed from your midst.” (1 Corinthians 5:1-2 NASB1995)

Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, wrote these words to the church of God in Corinth, “to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours” (1 Corinthians 1:2 NASB1995).

Therefore, the church is not a place that you go to once or twice a week, which is how the majority of Christians today appear to perceive it as being, but it is the people of faith in Jesus Christ all over the world, the universal body of Christ. And we can meet together any days of the week, in any appropriate settings, at any time of day or night, even on the internet or via texting or emails or phone calls, when in person visits are not possible.

And there is immorality of tremendous proportions going on within the body of believers in Jesus Christ all across America, and I image across the globe, as well, and among those who profess the name of Jesus but who, in practice, are living immoral lives, deliberately and habitually, but yet act as though they are believers in Jesus who are part of the body of Christ. And the church (collectively), overall, does not appear to be following our Lord’s instructions here in 1 Corinthians 5 in how to deal with such issues as this.

For this is not about one man living in sexual immorality, but this is about the majority of “Christian” men dabbling in and addicted to pornographic images and to self-gratification (sexual relations with oneself). And this includes a large number of pastors and elders in the gatherings of what are called “churches” across America, most of which are partnered with the ungodly via incorporating (merging, uniting) with the state. And this includes women and children, too, especially since so many have Smartphones.

But rather than dealing with these issues biblically, as is taught in 1 Corinthians chapter 5, it appears that the majority are, instead, altering and diluting the gospel message, and they are erasing God’s requirements for biblical repentance (death to sin) and for walks of surrender and obedience to our Lord and to his commandments, as part of God-persuaded and God-honoring and God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord. And so they are giving professed believers in Christ permission to live in sexual (and all) sin.

On a more individual level, it is not uncommon for those who profess faith in Jesus Christ, but who make sexual immorality their practice, to hide what they are doing in secret, and to put on a show of righteousness when around others who also profess faith in Jesus Christ. Even though the addicted to sexual immorality know that what they are doing is wrong, and is against God, and against their spouses, they continue living in what is vain and worthless while they put on a fake persona to make themselves look good.

And on a more collective level, with regard to the church, as a whole, or as individual gatherings of the church, or the fake “churches” which are just businesses being marketed to the world, it appears the majority in America have gone the way of the world and have adopted a half-truth diluted gospel which makes no requirements for putting sin to death and for walking in obedience to our Lord, as required by God as necessary components of biblical faith which saves from sin and which promises eternal life with God.

But they call their gatherings “the church,” and they promote themselves as followers of Jesus, and so they have an outward show of being of God when so many of them are being led by men of the flesh and by marketing schemes on how to “grow their churches.” And while the gospel is being altered to appease the flesh and to not offend the ungodly with the truth of the gospel. For the truth requires that we die to sin, that we obey God, and if sin is our practice, and not obedience, we don’t have eternal life with God.

So, what is the solution? The church (the body of Christ) needs to take God and his word (taught in context) to heart, believe what God says about sexually immoral and all addictive sin, that the addicted who do not obey God, in practice, will not inherit eternal life with God. And then begin teaching and practicing the truth that Jesus and his New Testament apostles taught, in context. And then begin exercising true biblical church discipline intended to free the addict from his sinful addiction, not to leave him in it.

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.

Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.

Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.

Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.
