Deut 18:19; 'It shall come about that whoever will not listen to My words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will require it of him.
Deut 18:20; 'But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.'
Deut 18:21; "You may say in your heart, 'How will we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?'
Deut 18:22; "When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.
These days it seems everyone is a prophet. A quick search on youtube comes up with over 200 "True Prophets of God". Hmmm... and yet they don't all agree with each other. Does God disagree with Himself?
So how do you know who the real prophets are?
It's funny there is a very large church here on in Western US. They claim to have several well known prophets. They even teach prophecy classes.
I have a little bit of a problem with that, because I don't think the gift of prophecy can be "taught". There is no record of it being "taught" to anyone in the Bible. Either they had the gift, or they didn't.
In 1Cor 12, it says the Holy Spirit decides who gets what gifts, we don't get to choose the ones we want.
1Cor 12:11; But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.
All that aside, I watched several of these prophets over the years, and there is one group in particular I was watching. They prophesied Donald Trump would win a second term, when he didn't win immediately
they prophesied things would be revealed and he would be given the presidency within 90 days. When that didn't happen they changed it to one year. Of course that didn't happen either. They then moved to Covid-19.
It's be gone in a month, then 3 months, then 6 months... you get the idea. Of course it eventually did die down here in the US, but it took almost two years. I guess if you wait long enough your prophecy will come true?
A couple of them said that current Governors of the 3 most western states would be voted out. That didn't happen either.
I've had some people who have gone to some of these "prophecy classes". Prophesy over me. I was going to be a missionary to Portugal, that was 7 years ago, it hasn't happened yet.
I have also had people prophesy over sicknesses and health problems I've had over the years. They "prophesied" over my sickness and disease that it would be removed immediately.
Now a couple of years later, I still have the same health problems. Don't get me wrong, I believe God can heal me. But the point here is... at what point are these people determined to be false prophets?
Now maybe you're allowed to be wrong once or twice, I don't know. But if you're wrong 10 out of ten times... maybe you aren't really a prophet. Maybe... you're.. ( dare I say it? ) .. a false prophet.
